I don't think it's a mistake or irrational. It's his opinion, and maybe he has higher expectations that others. Nothing wrong with that. Personally, I'd be satisfied with the code for a new Benchmade; but to each his own.

So opinions cannot be "mistakes" or "irrational"? That's cute in that it is possibly a click off from calling him a "victim" for having "higher expectations" when he fails to read or understand his warranty. On the flip side, at least he had the integrity to backup his opinion with why he thought that way.

i believe you are in the right. it is up to us the consumer to hold these billion dollar coporations to theyre word. it says lifetine warranty because its expected to last a lifetime under normal wear and tear. ..

If one actually reads the warranty one would find that Benchmade did hold to their word and then some.

why are you our fello osa members taking the side of benchmade? why are you so critical of your fello osa member? be kind or be quiet

Not so much that anyone is taking sides with those pesky big "corporations" but that he didn't read the warranty to the product he purchased and then expected the warranty to be more than what it actually was. He was wrong.

It is well and fine to make a statement based off of an opinion (right, wrong or indifferent) in a public forum such as this. But given that, one should expect to receive criticism from those that disagree. To this the OP made a comment and to his credit he tried to validate why he felt the way he does. However given what the warranty explicitly states he was wrong to assume what he did.

It's because that is exactly what a message board or forum is for. He gave his opinion and he is entitled to do so. However, in a forum other people are encouraged to give their opinion even if it contradicts the opinion of the original poster. If someone wants sympathy or a pity party; call a friend or family member. A forum, in a way, helps provide perspective. Often people are too emotionally attached or close to a situation to be able to see the big picture. Just because there is a disagreement doesn't mean that people are not being kind. i have had polite confrontations or challenges several times over the years and had support or agreement for the same folks. I never take it personal - again because - that is the point of the message board.

I guess you're expecting a more PC forum? Outside of that, you might want to review what the warranty actually says before you post.

When I wear a good product out and I like the product, I buy a new one. I don't expect the manufacturer to give me a new product free if I wore it out.

Question for the OP, if Benchmade are so great what are you doing to them to wear out and have so many sent back?

I am not trying to be a jerk, I know how my knives were used and that is why I ask.

Yes, opinions can be irrational. I don't think it is in this particular case. And no, I don't see any victims here.

Get ready to deal with the same **** with ZT. I had an issue with a Kershaw auto knife (owned by same parent co.) and the lock failed immediately. I sent it in and they told me it had been discontinued so they could not repair it and it was against policy to send it back to me.

So I ask for a replacement auto knife to which they stated, the other auto knives they offer have a higher MSRP so I'd have to pay the difference or select a non-auto knife of equal or lesser value. Went round and round and up the ladder for over a month but no give. So basically in order to get an item back similar to what i sent in; I had to pay $30 for the new knife. Pisses me off to this day.
