AR-10 platform?
It is an AR-10 cartridge, even though COL is 2.300" - which is only .050" over AR-15 magazine, but the pressure and the energy would probably destroy AR-15 platform. Little brothers of Raptor (450 Bushmaster and 458 SoCom) run about half the pressure to work in AR15.
Sounds like a cool 45-70-ish in AR10.
With that said - $1/ea for proprietary brass and 3700ft/lb of muzzle energy - hold on to both your pants and your wallet ;)

Decision made. It's going to be the .45 raptor.
The 45 RAPTOR is designed to shoot bullets ranging from 160 grains up to 395 grains giving end users a wide range of projectile options to meet their specific requirements. Whether that is a 185-grain JHP for target shooting or soft targets with minimal recoil, middleweight 200-250 grain bullets ideal for medium game animals such as deer or hogs or a 300-grain heavily constructed bullet for maximum energy on large game animals. In actual field hunting tests on Feral Hogs, many bullets expand to .625”-.675” and retain 60-70% of their original weight.

I've looked at that cartridge before, and I just don't think it does enough over my 458 socom to justify having to go AR10 platform.

I made my decision too. My next build will be................

.375 SOCOM

It'll be awhile but I'll start buying brass and dies soon. Still debating on just buying the whole upper or not. It has the ballistics and trajectory I want in a thumper caliber and still uses standard AR mags. Best part is it was created right here in Oklahoma by Tony Rumore. :mosh:

After that I'll build a skinny bullet screamer.

If you are going to consider the 25 45 Sharps new gen then go with the 257 Roberts instead. Better coefficient that that round and a great flat shooter that has been a go to deer round for eons AND a great target round still. Easy on the shoulder and will get you to 3000 fps easy and safely. I have seen two of these in Ar platforms and both owners said they were thrilled with them.
Maybe on an AR-10, but not AR-15.

I don't believe 257 roberts would even fit in an AR10 MAG. That's a long action cartridge. 2.6oal for ar15 2.8oal for ar10. Unless you jam the bullet down in the brass..lol
