So my wife and I have been house hunting for awhile now. We have looked anywhere between a brand new house and houses built in the 70's. We both have very modern style, and builders are only just now starting to adopt it as a home-building style so there weren't a ton of options.

Then all the sudden we find this house. It's built by one of our favorite builders here(Awesome reviews, and LEED certified houses with a utility bill guarantee). And it's in our price range. We had just talked to the builder directly about a house in progress in the same neighborhood. But this house we found was bigger, nicer, and a lot less money than the new one.

We looked at the history of the house, and latest owner has only been there since Feb. Something wasn't adding up. I just chalked it up to something maybe unfortunate or life changing. And the price maybe since you could get a new house, nobody wanted one a few years old in the same neighborhood. Their realtor gave us some story about them building a house in the country and that house was just temporary.

But then.. I started doing my thing. I'm checking tax records, etc, etc, etc to see what we can expect. Meanwhile we have an offer in the works on the place. But then I type the owners name in google.. Registered sex offender, convicted of rape by force! :bolt:

Now it all makes sense. This is a conservative suburban neighborhood with families and kids. I bet they want his A$$ out of there PRONTO. It's good for us from a money standpoint, but at the same time I feel a little bad for the guy. His crime was obviously terrible and he did 15 years for it, but that's gonna follow him around forever. He's listed as high risk and will be registered for life. GEEEEZ. I showed my realtor. She was blown away.

So here we are... Freaking crazy.

Sounds like a great deal for you.

But...

That address is now associated with his name. Do you want to take the (admittedly probably small) risk that someone wanting to give an offender some grief will look him up and go after the house?

(OK, sue me. I'm a writer. This is how my mind works.)

Sounds like he got off easy if you ask me. He still needs to be castrated or just some good ole lead poisoning.

What neighborhood were you guys looking in?

Vista Ridge in Leander, TX

What does "very modern style" even mean? You want a man bun on the roof and a super tight skinny backyard?

Hahahaha, no. Although that'd be a sight to see.

It wasn't meant to sound boastful if it came off that way. Honestly it has more to do with subtle stuff. A lot of grey palette colors, including grey stained/color floors. Cabinets that are white, not wood color. Square lines. Nothing too wacky. But not that common in homes built in the last 5-10 years.

So how long does the address in question stay linked to a sex offender in a database lookup?
As far as I can tell, it's based on the person more than the location (thankfully). Of course there's still some association to the person with the address, but since everything is online databases, as soon as the person updates the address, that should move it too.
