I've been making homemade wine for about a year now and it's alot of fun for the guys who like DYI projects where the details matter.

I'm just using a BSG 6 gallon kit, but will probably upgrade in the near future. Anyone have any high end setups to show off? I'll add some photos of my little cheapo rig soon.

I don't but I had a neighbor when I lived in AZ that did. Old Italian cat that had an incredible set up in his basement. Made some really nice wines and made a lot of interesting wines that he would cook with.

Cool hobby ... Best of luck.

I was told by a wine maker, that if you put a handful of redhots in a gallon jug of apple juice, then put a balloon over the top of the jug. The balloon will inflate then deflate, said it takes about 1 month. When it's done you will have the best apple wine you have ever drank.

That sounds almost dangerous enough to try.

Unless you let is set for some time without the balloon, I am not quite sure how it would ferment. Throw in some Lavlin Champagne yeast to get it to ferment.

I have done wild yeast beers by setting my wort outside only covered by cheesecloth to keep out bugs. While the beer turned out well, not sure how that would result in apple juice. I would also suggest looking for a natural apple juice that contains no flavoring and no additional sugars. Otherwise you are basically just making a good batch of prison toilet wine.

my father in law makes a lot of wine. I've made a couple of batches but mostly stick to beer.

10lbs of sugar, apple juice and champaign yeast will give you a great apple wine, but with one hell of a hangover.

I have the basic 6 gal container and carboy. It's been awhile since making any. We used the last bottle this weekend. 1/2 in the beef stew, and half for the cook.
I bought the kit with all the ingredients for an Australian Shiraz from a place south of penn square mall. Really simple and the results were very tasty.

I made my first wine when I was 15. I am 3 times as old now and that first mason jar was the best.
I have made it from banana's from grapes , sand plum, pears, blueberries, and a strawberry kiwi drink from Aldies.

I currently have strawberry kiwi and grape.
I just use fleischmans yeast and sugar.

My first ever was just grapes going bad..I mashed them up and put some sugar in the mason jar and sealed it .
I put vaseline on the ring threads so i could get it back off later.
I then covered the entire mason jar with foil and dug a 3 foot post hole. Placed the jar at the bottom.. put a little dirt over it and then
I placed a rock over that and filled the hole back up with dirt. this was in Moore ok.
I dug the jar up 3 months later.
I opened it and it was very good stout wine.
Drank it with a girl.. we got a buzz and that is about it.

I tried some wine yeast but it left the wine with a much more yeasty finish than the Fleischmans.

My wife does not like my wine..said it is like fruit juice with vodka in it.
Yea ,, good stuff.
