We had a big dinner for 20 in Annapolis after my best friend graduated from the naval academy. It was my only experience and was pretty good, as i recall.

I still have hard time going out for steak, though. It has to be a very, very good steak to make me feel okay paying that much when i know i can cook a good one at home for a lot less.

That said, there are some people who can take it to another level. And i don't mind paying for that experience.

I have eaten at a Ruth's one time, and it was definitely the best restaurant steak I've had.

It was twenty some odd years ago in Chicago. I was there on a business trip and the company paid the tab. I can not afford those prices but I'm glad I got to try it.

The next best steak experience was at Morton's of Chicago in Houston, also on the company's tab. :D

Sorry, but I just can't seem to be able to comprehend paying $$$ for a steak dinner. I'm with Donner, I have a freezer full of beef, a Big Green Egg and a supply of lump charcoal. Plus I ain't eating anyplace I can't wear blue jeans either.

Ruth's Chris has a dress code? Yeah, I don't think I'd be welcome there. <sigh> If it requires anything more than cargo pants or khakis and a pullover knit shirt, it's unlikely I'll be patronizing them. I just don't get dressed up. I guess a lot of places that want to be "classy" have that kind of requirement. I don't get out much to that sort of establishment anymore, I'm pretty laid-back.

Oh well. Best steak I ever ate was definitely my own, multiple times over. Best steak I ever ate out... hmmm... Charley's Steak House in Orlando, FL and some Prime place down in Dallas. Can't remember... something simple like Bob's Prime or something. I ate at Mahogany in Tulsa once, had a great bone-in Prime ribeye - food was great, but their service really annoyed me. They hovered way too much, seemed like people were packed into that place like sardines (although luckily we ended up with a corner table that had more elbow room), and it wasn't a comfortable dining experience, honestly.

Having a waiter come over and use some kinda straight blade to sweep crumbs off of the tablecloth around my plate while I am still dining just seems too much to me. I like having a little bit of space and they seemed to hover way too much and way too close, like I didn't want to carry on a conversation with my wife because it seemed like they were literally within 2 steps of me the entire time. Meh. For over $200 (or maybe even $300? I don't remember) with drinks, I didn't feel comfortable there at all.

I wore jeans when I went there, but that was a couple of decades ago.

If I recall correctly, the bill for two people for dinner and a couple of beers each was $150 plus.

I don't know, I haven't been there. But from the pic above it looked like a pretty formal atmosphere.
