Been looking to add a rifle to the collection and have chosen the caliber in 6.5x55 swede. After much research I feel this round give a lot of options for the reloader and the accuracy is proven. What I don't understand is why there are so few of these rifles (used) offered for sale? I guess the 6.5 Creedmore and the 260 are preferred? Any ideas, or better yet, anyone with one they want to sell?

Would love to have a Sako but I think a Tikka is in my near future.

good choice! there are 5 6.5's in my safe but all are milsurp. i will add a modern gun in the near future as well. the ruger 77 with mannlicher stock is a beautiful gun. the cz is a good option also.

I have a few 6.5x55 swedes. Decided to build a 6.5x55 Savage for F-Class (since I have all plethora of reloading components). It was pretty cool- but 6.5x47L just did everything better. In modern rifle if you are willing to deal with long action - might as well do a 7mm (284, 280, 7x57AI etc) and hurl some 180s.

I have a 300 win mag so I'm pretty much covered on hurling 180's. If I didn't have that I'd definitely go with a 7mm. I'm looking for something between the 243 and the 308 basically, that can give both range and versatility on bullets while being easy on the shoulder. Want to be able to have my son and wife enjoy in the use of it eventually.

The 6.5x55 is a very good all around caliber. I have a Swedish carbine which I haven't had a chance to shoot yet. However, I once had an M96 which was a seriously good shooter. I found Pvri Partizan 140 and 150 grain ammo shot best at 2-300 yds. I don't have any of either now and haven't seen any 150 for quite some time. I don't reload.

I understand that reloading the 6.5 Swede is not for beginners. The difference between underpowered loads and overpressured loads is reported to be fairly narrow. Had a long Swede milsurp, didn't shoot it much, and never did much reloading for it. Amazingly accurate rifle, even with open sights. Mine did not have the desirable peep sights...
