Well that didn't work.
Drilled a new gas port (.0625) and a pistol length gas tube. Still a single shot AR.
GRRRRR dang it.... :(
That was with H110, 17.5gr with 125gr bullets.

Suggestions?
I am thinking of drilling gas port out to about .070ish. Guess it depends on what drill bit I can find.

As I said before, I drilled my blackout pistol barrel to a full 1/8". Even though the gas tube isn't that big, it still fixed my problem.

If you have a bigger gas port, make certain the gas block is properly aligned, and a lighter buffer, about the only other thing to try is to cut one coil off the buffer spring. And if you haven't already done so, try running it wet instead of a dry bolt.

With a 300 blackout, sometimes it's just about finding the combination that works for your gun.

I got the barrel at FBT. I didn't know what I was looking for and obviously they didn't know what they were selling. S**t happens ya know. I'm not gonna whine about it. I do think I'll go ahead and try to drill it and install another gas block over the old gas port. Heck, I might as well use the block that is on it since it has a mid length tube that won't be used for anything that I have in mind.
Buy me a new low profile gas block with pistol length tube, drill then new port, install old block with set screw in the old port and run it. Better than having a $120 S/S barrel laying around that nobody will buy unless pennies on the dollar.
Give it a shot. You never know, it might turn out good.

That's a lot of fussing to get a 300 BLK rig to work right. What is it about this caliber that such tinkering is required, as opposed to 5.56?

I was looking for a decent shooting, readily available 30 cal . Who knows, a new correct barrel may be all I need but I have time to fiddle with it so it's no biggy. I like how it shoots so I'll keep messing with it till it works or I get tired of it and just put a .556 barrel on it.
Might be different if I bought a ready built gun, but what's the fun in that, right?

I think the issue comes with barrels that are a poor combination of specs, ie gas length and port size. Cheaper barrels seem to exhibit bad combos more often, but that's not to say that cheap barrels can't work either. Mine is a $75 PSA special 8.5" w/ pistol gas. It's been reliable so far. I've run both supers and subs through it, unsuppressed only so far.
