I was at the RK show this weekend. The show was in the Modern Living building, it cost somewhere between $7,000-$8000 to rent for the weekend. Around 1000 came in the show. So here's the math.
Building $7,500ish
Utilities around $1,000 for weekend
Tables are $16 each for weekend
Chairs are $1 each for weekend
Insurance, not sure of the exact amount but was told is Very, Very High
Out of the $14 to get in, the fairgrounds take $1 per person plus 12% of door
These are actual figures from the person who helps run and put on the RK show
******CRAP, I NEVER LEARN it got me too.LOL Always read the complete post before replying.

A few years ago, when I lived in Muskogee, the local paper was losing readers and subscribers so the increased the cost by 50%. Single issues went from 50 cents to 75. I doubt if they have yet figured out why they continue to lose money

Shows suffer from the same lack of understand ( in my opinion). The problem seems to be low attendance and the low attendance seems to be from the combination of high admission prices and low vendor count. Cut the admission to $5, or even free, cut the table rent to a reasonable amount, and volume will increase. It may take a couple of shows before the bad reputations are corrected, but it will work in the long run.

As to vendor prices being higher than retail, even compared to local prices: if you can't compete, then get into another business. I'm not going to pay more to a show vendor that I'll have trouble finding again if there is a problem, when I can go to a local merchant that I can trust.

Sorry, I got carried away!

IMHO, the number 1 problem is Soooooooooooooooooooooooo many shows. We all know there are 52 weeks in a year, in 2015 there were 46 gun shows at the Okc Fairgrounds. That means there were only 6 weekends that there was no gun show.(for those who can't count...JOEL) That does not include the other shows going on around the state. 2016 was about the same, and 2017 is on the same course. Now throw in Bucannons. I agree $14 is too much to get in, but if you only had 4 or 5 shows a year they might not mind so much
