Well...this "Oklahoma experiment" has been fun. I was employeed in Texas after graduation for about 7 years working at a pretty neat place. Work got slow there and they had a sister division in Tulsa who needed help, so I volunteered to come up and help out. I spent 6 months living in Homewood Suites on Garnett working at this place "on loan" basically, while still a resident of Texas and receiving the check from Texas. After 6 months, this place begged me to stay...so we struck a deal, I sold my house in Texas and moved here. About a year later they started having layoffs and at the 14 month mark I got hit and I've now been unemployed since last April.
I was about to move to Nebraska then I got an offer at a similar facility here...so I start my new job tomorrow morning. Kinda excited, kinda nervous, kinda gunshy (after my last experience) so we'll see how it goes. I still have the Nebraska move in my back pocket if need be (family house we use as a hunting lodge but could live there while I get other crap sorted out and live cheap) but it'll be nice to get back into my field and contribute to the greater good.

Wish me luck!

I worked at Kerr-McGee at the end. They transferred a bunch of people to the office in Houston. When the layoffs started, they were the first to get cut. In a new city, with zero jobs in oil & gas available, and unemployed. Nice. Just more of Corbett's leadership that allowed him to walk away with $150 million.

Well I survived...lots of reading through manuals, learning computer drives, filling out paperwork and all that.
I appreciate the good wishes. I hope it works out anf I get to stick around the area as its nice being pretty central in the US.

And no, not Oil and Gas....but aerospace/defense type work so it ebbs and flows much like the O&G industry.

Congrats on the new job!

Trump is talking about expanding the military, so hopefully, aerospace/defense work will stabilize. My dad worked forever in that industry (and my brother does now) and I remember many tense times. It always worked out for them. The secret was working harder than damn near everybody else and knowing your stuff inside and out. It's a difficult industry, but you can make a good career out of it.

Ive survived more layoffs than I care to count since Obama took office....I guess it was just my time. I thought about getting out of that industry for that reason but really enjoy it so I will see how it goes and no longer assume I will make a career at one place. Just part of it and you gotta try not to take it personal.
