If it's the same HG as the one TR mentioned, it is. 1.75" ID, 2" OD. That's a big can!

That's a SiCo Saker, 1.5" OD. I think it's kind of an optical illusion. 1.75" ID rail with 1.5" OD can would leave .125" each side. I think it's right, just the angle of the picture makes it look like the can almost fills the rail.

For black anodized parts I've been reasonably successful cleaning with acetone and treating with BC Aluminum Black. If there's a white or other fill involved a bit of Goof-Off and some rubbing usually takes care of that first.

Does the acetone affect the finish underneath the white lettering? I hadn't thought of Goof-Off, and I have a bottle in the garage. Might mask off the lettering and try that. Even if the finish is affected, it'll be a nice rectangle with a different appearance to the finish once done. That would be, IMHO, a lot better looking than the advertising. I can just picture it at the range...

BOOM!

Hi, ALG Defense here.

We're online, come check us out.

BOOM! No, thanks. Time for some judicious obliterating.

Continuing this thread on a slightly divergent path; does anyone know of any free-float HG's that are 14" long? Not 13.5" or 15", but 14"? I'm not looking for quad-rail HG's though, as I want to grip it and not a VFG. If not, has anyone had any luck cutting down a 15" HG without leaving any open slots or holes around the cut edge?

ETA: I modified my Google search and found several options claiming to be 14" - the Trojan Firearms keymod handrail Gen I, and the CMMG RKM14. Anyone ever use either of those?

FYI, I contacted CS at Trojan Firearms and at CMMG about the HG's I mentioned in my last post. The Trojan HG is indeed 14" long, but the CMMG HG is actually 14.25". So you can tailor the fit of the HG relative to the muzzle device even more closely than with 13.5" or 15" HG's.

TR, I heard back from the custom HG company regarding their prices. Their standard length hand guards (7", 9", 12", and 15") range from $175 to $275; they can do custom lengths, but the price on that starts at $375 and goes up from there. Sorry, but I won't be getting anything from that company ;)
