The 1911 has plenty of info out there. I would recommend your local smith or if shooting competition then a 1911 specialties smith. You're standard bushing to barrel fit, trigger job, grip safety, extended slide release and safety are really all common mods for the gun. Most of these mods can be done by you, but a smith if unsure is always my go to. If you need a good smith just post it on the forum, they are always happy to point you in the right direction.

where would the best bet to find info on modifying a 1911 be? Modifications would be a new hammer, never tail, etc.

1911forum.com is a good source of info.

Also Google: the Sight M1911; I don't have the exact URL right now, but that's an awesome site full of information about the 1911.

I've been reading forum but I wasn't sure if there were any good books or videos.
It seams parts are a domino effect like the safety's need to be fitted with the seat so i think the best bet would be buy all of the parts and put them in all at once.

I did notice the Slide stop is a tad tough to get past the pin, plus the anxiety of getting an idiot scratch was there.
