So this story is from Guns .com and I disagree with many of the commenters on this site. I state that the officer shouldnt of put him self in the situation. I also contend that he escalated it by dragging the kid and not stopping and retreating into his home when he realized he made a dumb move and eventually had an ND because of stress and poor training.
What do yall think?
I tend to trust yall more as youre not so Internety and less keyboard warriors.

Inappropriate use of force and a loss of tactical awareness. I don't think he should've gotten off his porch. Walt Kowalski would not approve.

Simply put, he let his frustration and anger overcome his common sense. That being said, I despise packs of feral kids and their parents should be flogged. BTW, CA is a dual consent state. Some of the families are planning to sue based on the video. Fine, but anyone using the video as evidence should be arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime. :)

Those kids were up to no good. When those kids were trying to outflank him, with one shedding his jacket and back pack, another trying to reach into his back pocket for something, he had every right to pull his weapon imho. If it was an ND, or a warning shot, that wasn't justified.

Yeah but from what it seems like (I wasnt there and dont know the full story so not making a hard judgment) he should of never been there in the first place. Pulling the damn kid over a bush and continuing to do it. I mean once he was being surrounded even if he was justified which I dont see how he could of been he should of let the kid go and retreat into his home where hed have time to call for back up and better tactical advantage should he need fight. He escalated the situation with the fighting and pulling the gun when he never needed to do any of it..

First, he was off duty and he stuck his nose in it unecessarily.

2nd he set himself up in an unwinnable battle with a crowd of punks.

3rd, drawing the pistol was justified, but then what? Punks don't just respect the gun and drift away. They challenge. And then what? Shoot unarmed Punks? On video?

I see a series of bad decisions. If he needed to draw his gun, he should have at least let go of punk #1.

I've never been a LEO, so I'm just making this up, but could it be that an officer's mindset might include: whenever you're approached by multiple bad guys, don't let them start getting close because it could quickly get out of control with them getting your gun?

That being said, I think this could have been handled a lot better.

Having been a LEO, the immediate thought that comes to mind is what's the first thing you do when making contact with multiple subjects?
