side note. a relative who is a legal colorado grower, cannot get a ccw because he is a grower. That sucks in a way, as grows do get ripped off. So I suppose it is a balance of what is important to the individual.

I wonder why medicines like marinol aren't discussed more in the medical side of these discussions? There seem to be a lot of medications that are already processed versions of marijuana. There also seem to be many medications that already treat many symptoms or illnesses, and potentially better than THC.

To me, it seems like medical marijuana is a joke where I've seen it. You have a back ache, therefore you can get a prescription for weed. Plus, when is the last time that any good doctor recommended smoking anything?

I guess I don't support it because we already have medication that use the benefits of it, and have had for about 20 years. Heck even compounds similar to methamphetamine and heroin are used under strict regulation. I feel like the whole medical marijuana push is agenda driven for recreational use. I don't like hidden agendas. That being said, I'm certain that there are agendas on both sides of the argument. I'm sure the TRUTH would be found somewhere inbetweeen.

Marijuana vs alcohol and it's effect on society? Good question. No answer here. I agree with a post yesterday, I think anything over a certain percentage of TCH damn sure changes things. When we start talking about concentrated THC (50%-75% and above) I feel pretty strongly that it becomes a hard street drug. IMHO Concentrated THC should no doubt be left on the CDS act.

One thing to point out guys, if THIS is one of the largest issues that cloud our state and/or country, I would say life is okay.

Because much of the the marijuana lobby and supporters won't accept anything considered mainstream medicine as legitimate, and because those in the medical community who know about things like Marinol know its place and use and have no respect for marijuana. It's the same thing about folks taking all this crap from the healthfood stores and don't know the first thing about it, how it works, if it works, or what the purity and/or QC measures involved in its manufacturing and distribution are - but it's from the healthfood store, so it's already automagically better than anything from a physician. That's cool... but don't come to me asking for help when you're going to ignore everything I have to say.

You're right about the abuse, but it's not used here, so it's moot to me, really. I wouldn't prescribe it if it WERE legal, just like some of the other drugs I refuse to prescribe.

Well, it's one thing to marginalize something like MJ, treat it a the devil's gateway drug for decades in education then then wonder why it's not taken more seriously. MJ has an image issue for many our country. Not saying it's not totally deserved, but it does have an uphill battle for legitimacy given the years of campaigns against it.

And as i said early in this thread, my wife was prescribed the synthetic version by a doctor in memphis (with hospital privileges and all) after few of the other meds available had ann effect on her headache (with the ones that did often having worse side effects than headache). One drug's warnings, i kid you not, said it might cause headaches... Just because other drugs can 'work' doesn't make them better.

And while i agree that few doctors would recommend smoking something, there are many ways to take MJ without smoking it.

In regards to the use of drugs that work 'better', i should add that one doctor at the Mayo Clinic put my wife on a drug because it was shown to be 75% successful. The study he cited had 4 people in it with the diagnose he thought my wife had (a thing called a New Daily Persistent Headache).

When asked what she should do if this drug didn't work, he responded 'well, have you tried acupuncture and meditation?'
