While it sounds interesting, I would never want to go to D.C. for any reason.
There are some great museums and cultural opportunities there. I'm firmly of the opinion that everybody ought to spend two, maybe three weeks in DC. Go to the Smithsonian, the monuments, see the Capitol and White House...then turn in any direction and run, don't walk, away.

I'm with Dave on this one. I'm a museum nerd and could probably spend a week at just the Smithsonian. Plus, I hear there's an amazing aviation museum across the river in VA. Needless to say, I drive my kids NUTS on vacations where there are cool history sites and/or museums. After three or four hours at the same place, they get antsy. Ridiculous.

That would be the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles, an extension of the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. From what I've heard, you can take a full day in each of their two hangars and still be left wanting more (plus a day at the main A&S Museum, or course).

I've been here often over the years. It's a great city with a wealth of things to see.
The weather was horrible with the wind that made it feel even colder.
Other than capital visits, it was mostly just dinner then room

I want to visit there one time. When my wife retires next year early, we are planning on taking our RV on the road for an extended road trip. I DO want to visit DC for the memorials, and museums. My wife is not a huge museum fan, so will have to work around that.

D.C. is beautiful, and the history there is fascinating. I went years ago and we stayed in Old Town Alexandria. Being able to walk the streets and stand outside and stare at George Washington's old townhouse (which is still privately owned) is awe inspiring and something I don't ever think I'll forget. We never rented a car the whole time we were there, just hopped on the subway and got everywhere we needed to go.
