NRA's Carry Guard?

I just noticed the ad in the current issue of American Rifleman for the NRA's Carry Guard service. Basically, call the number on the card if you're involved in a self-defense situation where you had to use a firearm, and they'll help you out.

Does anyone have the inside scoop on this service? Worthwhile or not? I wonder if the liberals would see it as an excuse to go looking for trouble while having one's butt covered by NRA legal counsel.

My guess it is a "Pay For It" membership just like other pre-pay legal services are.

The spousal element and I are Gold level card carrying members. 31 bucks a month and you are pretty much covered in a lawful engagement against civil trial awards of up to $1,000,000.

If you have a carry permit and are interested in legal protection in self-defense situations, I suggest you check out CCW Safe (www.ccwsafe.com).

* Covers all uses of deadly force, not just firearms.
* No Caps, No Limits, Includes Retrials and Appeals. Member will never pay out of pocket for services.
* Covers member in any state that their permit(s) or license(s) are honored.
* Includes Bail Bond coverage up to $250,000 bonds at no additional cost.

My single coverage is $129 per year, and (IIRC?) there's a discount for military personnel and LEOs.

I have U.S. Law Shield. Has option for Oklahoma only or national coverage. Covers criminal and civil legal expenses.

I went with USCCA for that reason, not limited to firearms. If a rake or shovel is what you had to defend yourself with, you are covered.

Think I need to do some comparison shopping. Law Shield is up for renewal soon and runs about $310/year for me and the wife.
