My wife has taken to rolling her eyes. If it's something that I can afford out of my monthly "play money", then I buy what I want and I don't bother to tell her, usually. If it's a bigger purchase than that, I will talk it over with her.

Gun money stays gun money.

This is my dilemma. If I ever want a new/different gun, I gotta sell one to buy one.

The only time I ever ask for "permission" is when I'll sell one for $400 and the "new" one I am wanting costs $500. I then gotta sweet talk the wifey into floating me a C note.

However...

You gotta understand. On a cop's salary, I don't make near the money any of you guys do. The wife is the same way. She's a librarian at the public library in our home town and she makes just a whisper over minimum wage. So funds are usually kinda tight.

Especially since her dad (he's 88 years old) lives with us and doesn't contribute a penny to the monthly household bills, but he tosses hundreds and hundreds of dollars to his baby girl who always looks fabulous.

Then, our youngest daughter is about to start college and we all know how much THAT is gonna cost! :faint:

Then we have our oldest daughter, her husband and her son, who all three usually eat supper at our house at least 5 nights a week.

So yeah...after paying all the bills, buying groceries for seven people and the usually house and vehicle maintenance, we're broke! :cry3:

I only get guff when I mention selling one to buy another. "Do you really want to get rid of X-gun?"

Woody

THIS confounds me. Lol I buy and hold. He buys to horse trade. I've given up trying to figure it out. It makes him happy so, long as it's not something I bought with MY money, its all good.

We pretty much talk about anything over $100. However, she never tries to talk me out of gun purchases. If we have the funds for it, she doesn't have a problem with buying guns.

I've sold guns to buy guns, and when money was really tight right after college I sold a couple to help pay bills once. Didn't like it then, and don't ever plan on doing it again.

Having a wife who loves the things you love - and loving the things your wife loves - is a huge blessing to a marriage. But that doesn't mean communication isn't important. It all depends on how you manage your finances. We pretty much have fully joint accounts, so we talk to each other before we spend money. Some people keep separate accounts. So long as you know and agree on your system, do it your own way.

We also agreed not to spend on the spur of the moment, at least on big ticket items, which for us most guns qualify for that.

Funny story, found a good deal on a scope once, and told the seller I had to talk to my wife before purchasing (also had to get the money from the bank, but I didn't tell him that). He was shocked when I came back and bought it. He said most people use that as an excuse to walk away without saying no.

Got no money, so no reason to ask. lol I pretty much already had the guns I wanted/needed for hunting and whatnot before things got tight, now it just keep them maintained. I don't plan on selling any either.
