Born and raised in OR, but on the north end. If you get a chance to get up to the Columbia River Gorge (OR/WA border) absolutely do it - and bring your camera. I took it all for granted growing up there (grew up in Hood River) but living in OK is helping me realize just how good I had it...

Oh, wow!! Hood River is right on the Columbia. I'll have to pick your brain to find out as many natural (and man-made) attractions that are up in that area. I know of Multnomah (SP) Falls, but otherwise, I am pretty ignorant of that area. Keep an eye here as I will be putting in a few pictures of the Redwoods in northern California, and then I'll also put in Oregon coastline and Crater Lake photos.

Absolutely, there is a ton of stuff to do in that area of OR/WA. What kind of shape are you in (honestly)? You can shoot me a PM if you'd prefer. Some of the best areas will definitely require a hike in, but there are many that don't. You could spend months and not see everything...

I can limit your need to name them all. I just turned 71 and I am about 50 to 60 pounds overweight, so there would be some limits which I haven't tested in a while. I might be able to hike 2 or 3 miles if the grades aren't too steep.

Posting more pictures will have to wait a while. My computer is acting up. While it seems to function normally, it won't connect to websites. I am typing this on my tablet and it is a pain.

Let me know how much time you'll have and what time of year it will likely be - that will make a difference. Steep grades are the name of the game in the Gorge!

That is hard to say. I suspect that I want to go before Winter's rains come in, but with the schedule here at the Ranch, that might not be possible. I'll have to eyeball the schedule and see if there is some period of time when we could make the trip up there. Most likely, we would only have a day or two since we need to avoid spending too much on lodging. On our trip the the beach house on the Oregon coast, the house belongs to our bosses, so we didn't have to pay anything for that 4 night stay.

Oh, wait. I didn't mention the beach trip before did I? Well, let me post a few preview pictures. I'd do more pictures, but I'm still organizing them. I took almost 1000 photos on that trip from May 12 to 16.

I even managed to "shoot" some seals and photograph au natural sunbathers at the same time.

Some of the pictures I post here will be from California, simply because the northern California border is close. Some Redwoods in California are within about 80 miles of where we live and work. These next two are of the Smith River in California, which is the river that the wife, our youngest son, Eric, and myself kayaked last August when he was out here on vacation. Pretty good deal, a 70 year old man finally getting to kayak a river.

This next one was taken at Charleston, OR, which is right next to Coos Bay. I had nothing to do with the boat at the left.

Seals on the rocks off of Cape Arago near Charleston and Coos Bay. On his vacation, we camped in a tent at a couple of the state parks along the coast.

More seals in the area of Cape Arago. That area has three state parks, all within a couple of miles of each other. We camped at Sunset Bay State Park, but most of the pictures taken were at Shore Acres State Park and Cape Arago State Park. Some storm action at Shore Acres can be pretty impressive.

Contrast of photos at Shore Acres State Park. This first one is one I took on July 1.

Disclaimer: This next photo is NOT one that I took, but it shows what can happen at Shore Acres during a winter storm.

OK. Back to my photos. This is a sunset shot taken at Shore Acres.
