So here I am in the Netherlands, with at least one trip planned into Belgium. While I've sampled several delicious brews while I've been here I'm looking for recommendations. Are there any that I simply must try while I'm in this neck of the woods?

any or all of the Trappist Ales are a must. Believe there are 10 trappist monasteries brewing today. The ones I remember off hand in your neck of the woods are: Chimay (red, blue and white), Le Trappe (blonde) and Orval. All have alcohol levels between 9-14%. True craftsmanship my friend. ENJOY!

I've enjoyed some Chimay and Le Trappe. They are delicious! You know what else I've enjoyed (though it isn't made by monks)? Leffe. Leffe is quickly becoming a new favorite of mine.

Westvleteren XII is considered to be one of, if not the, top beers in the world. Still made by monks, even.

Tonight I went to an establishment with over 300 beers on the menu and I still couldn't find that stuff. Maybe I'll have better luck when I venture into Belgium.

Leffe is my favorite as well. Hands down one of the finest Beers ever produced. I envy you being over there. Spent about 8 years in SW Germany, I truly miss the beer.

The odd thing is that I've never really been a beer guy. The stuff over here is just that good. In a way, being here is kind of like being in Napa. I'm not much of a wine drinker, but the Napa wines are remarkable. You're right, the difference is craftsmanship. I'll definitely be looking for Leffe in the stores back home.
