Congratulations on what I believe to be a well deserved promotion. I don't know you personally but through the years of reading your posts and the things you have done for children under your charge, I believe you to be a good man. From what I've seen you have the skills and compassion required to do the best job possible for these kids and that's Job 1 as you have already stated. I've been in your position many time and it is never "smooth". All you can do is the best you can with what you have to work with. Attempt to help those under your supervision to understand and contribute to the solution. That will work with some and not with others but at the end of the day the decision and responsibility are on you as the leader.

A good and just man does the right thing even when no one is watching and is honest even when it hurts.

Prayers for strength and guidance sent.
Thank you sir. That was a fantastic show of encouragement and wisdom. Thank you again...

First off, congratulations!

Second, having been through the special education system as a kid, I can relate to the need to have the teachers and support staff placed where their skill sets can best be utilized. Ideally, they will want to be in those places, but when that doesn't happen, a firm and honest approach is best in helping them see the best path forward. I had some teachers back in the day who were motivated and dedicated - as well as a couple teachers who owed their positions to good connections. Guess which ones were my favorite?

Third, best of luck in your new position!

Your real Friends, wouldn't have any expectations of favoritism. They would understand your position, and respect your decisions. The others are well, just acquaintances really...

Thank you sir, I really appreciate the support. I am definitely going to approach this new position like I have always done and that is with the best intentions of the children and meeting their needs. We are all adults who can make decisions to move or start a new career if we are not happy. These are children that have very little to no control over their everyday life. For that reason alone they deserve to have people fighting for them and not being childish when they don't get thier way. Thank you again....

Thank you for showing me the perspective from being on the other side of all this having been served my those teachers. I have always believed and will always believe that when we all approach this job and these children in a way that shows live, kindness and respect and above all that we believe in them. That is the first step in them becoming successful adults and doing so much in their own lives. Our words and actions take a toll on these children and they know who cares about them and who just tolerates them. Sometimes what teachers and Para's and others don't say when they don't want to be around a certain child or group or children is just as damaging as what they could say. These kids pick up on so much of how we act and carry ourselves.

Pray about it and go with what is best for the children, it sounds like little bit like politics. But do what is best for the children-be different.

Jeff, people like that were never your friends to start with. I learned that lesson, too, just recently, the hard way. After I gave it a little thought I realized they never cared about me to start with -- just using me to build up their own egos, stir up trouble and just generally be two-faced.

Don't sweat it. Because they don't really matter. Like in that harassment thread, be friendly but distant.

Congratulations!! You've earned this and you can make a difference in the lives of those kids you care so much about. I have no doubt things will smooth out soon.

Always remember that crap rolls downhill, not up. People that give you a hard time should remember that.
As a supervisor, your job is not to make YOUR JOB harder. As an employee, their job is to do their job and not make your job harder.
If that's a stretch for them, they need to stretch their legs on the way out the door.
You don't have to brandish a sword when it's enough for them to know you will use it. That sounds harsh but it's not.
Being consistent is the key. Everyone knows the rules. If they don't, they need to know the rules. If they can't follow the rules, someone will be sitting in their chair that can.
