Good stuff. The sequence with the angled plate reminded me of our first backstop we built back in the day. A friend had access to free scrap metal, so he gathered up enough 6"X6"X1" carbon steel plates that we welded into a 6'X6' square plate that we set at a 45 degree angle.
Muzzle loaders, .22, and all pistol rounds deflected to the ground just like we figured. The problems started with 30-06 and bigger. They didn't deflect, causing large craters in the steel. .300 win mag rounds almost penetrated, leaving bumps on the back side of the plate.
Ended up just using it for lower velocity rounds.
