I concur with DH here, I own a Bose SoundTouch 30, and 3 JBL Garge 3's (my sons each have one) .......... yes the Bose sounds better but it's 500 bucks and requires AC power . It's louder and better quality sound then the Charge 3 but the difference is minimal .....but for the size and the length of battery life I'd just get two JBL charge 3's and link them ...they are one hell of a product for the money.ill post a pic to show these size difference ......I use the Bose in the garage and the JBL everywhere else , boats, hot tub ...... emapples, I'm just worried if I spend money on something like a bose it's just gonna get dirt and beer all over and inside it. Looking for something that can be a little tougher. Quality of sound is an understandable sacrifice.

Alto Truesonic TS215's.

We are talking about 2 different leagues here, these things will rock a bonfire like you've never seen. You could get a set for around $600-$700...

I took them to a pool party last weekend, the guy had a nice outdoor sound system that he had spent over $1500 on, all he could say was "WOW", and "where can I get some of those?"

I picked this set up, like new, with a couple of lights, and a small mixing board for $800.

Do I need a mixer or something if I get a speaker like that?

No no, I wasn't rally pitching for the Bose, if I had it to do all over again I'd have stuck with the JBL charge 3 all the way ..... I fire up the Bose 1 time for every 10 time I fire up the JBL beer bottle lol....... plus I can throw in I a cargo pocket , and it runs for 10-18 hours on a charge .....I can't say enough good things about the charge 3

My bose drops into a pocket as well. Not sure you looked up the right model? I've never ran the battery down from a full charge so not sure how long it would run. Volume would make a difference in battery charge. Its not much different from your JBL.
Don't know how the JBL price would compare either.

I bought one of these last week, going to get a few more. ( cheaper on eBay). You can Bluetooth several together for a large area. They sound really good for their size.

You don't have to have one, you can feed directly into the speakers with the correct cable.

I have the Mackie Mix8, came with the setup but it is only $75, there is a cheaper $60 unit as well.

The mixer is nice as it let's you feed multiple inputs, and has more control over the sound coming in, and going out. Plus if someone wanted to jam at the bonfire you could feed multiple instruments, and mics into the the speakers.

We ate lunch Saturday where a couple were doing a gig, they had a single 10" PA speaker they were feeding a guitar and 2 mics into. They were absolutely rocking the place, I was surprised how much sound was coming from the single speaker.
