The surplus/milspec ammo your using is known to have hard primers. The Tula brand is the same as what they issue to their troops.
FWIW, it's the same ammo I've always used in it. I think it was said earlier in this thread that the 527 is designed around use of ComBloc ammo. I suspect that it is just a worn spring and that replacing it will solve the problem.
I'll bet it's not that difficult to break the bolt down for spring replacement. Let us know how it goes.
I've had the bolt apart, and ran a pipe cleaner through it, and reassmbled it. I have not had the spring removed, but from the youtube video, it doesn't look too terribly hard. Anyway, we'll see how it goes. I'll give an AAR.

It looks like the problem was a weak firing pin spring.

Yesterday, after a whole bunch of 'I can't do this; I'll dick it up' type of dithering, I decided that, at worst, I'd be in the same situation I was in before, so I got a pair of vise-grips and using them to grip the spring retainer, I replaced the spring and re-assembled the bolt. It wouldn't go in the rifle at first and then I remembered to cock the bolt and it went right in.

Hoping that the problem was fixed but fearing that it wasn't, I went to the range today, and fired 55 7.62 x 39 rounds with no misfires whatever,.

I hope that the problem is solved.

And before someone jumps in to tell me, I padded the retainer with a piece of leather to avoid marring it.

A few more tests will tell me whether or not I have my beloved Czech rifle back

Keep us posted. That carbine is on my list of "wantitrealbad".

And good for you for diving into the repair. I managed to replace an extractor spring on my FEG Hi Power clone, and felt like King Bubba Gunsmith Kong. Mrs. Zap thought I was just being loony, but that's a story for another time...

Thank you.

It is safe at this point in time to say that the problem has been solved. Another 90 rounds went downrange today with nary a misfire. There were a couple of minor problems with the magazines however. The bolt skipped over the round and I had an 'oh ****' moment but light firing pin strikes were not the problem I had feared.

Other than that, it was smooth sailing.

The CZ 527 in 7.62 Soviet and 223 are two rifles I am glad to have. If you get one, I seriously doubt that you will regret doing so.

Glad you got the issue worked out. I'd really like to have one of these or the Ruger ranch in 7.62x39. Just have to wait on some Christmas cash to come my way.
My brother has a mini-30, and he has said that Ruger does not recommend steel-cased ammo for it. CZ, on the other hand, has designed their 527's in both 223 and 7.62 Sov around the steel-cased ComBloc ammo.

Sorry, I was talking about the Ruger American Ranch that just came out. Not the mini30.
