Kitchen Knives seem to be the knife of choice for the street thugs. You can get an easy razor edge on them in a few seconds.
Seriously, I've watched some video's of knife training experts, and wondered, wtf they were thinking.

They say to swipe across the legs, arms, etc to reduce the mobility of the attacker. Works fine until you get some denim, , leather jacket, and winter clothes involved. Watched some video's abou that, and had to laugh.
I've tried that with a blade I can easily shave with it and can't "swipe" through the denim to disable anybody. Pant leg over a 4X4.
Now, that being said, a stabbing at close quarters is golden. A knife at CQ is probably more deadly than a gun if the blade is the right length, point first

My edc is a becker bk14 with scales. Could not be happier. Did carry a schrade blunt tip water rat for a while and it was ok on a budget, has alot of utility especially prying.

CRKT has several models if you are looking for something on a budget. I carry a couple different ones when I travel. Don't want to authorities in a foreign country take a high end knife from me but if I get caught up with a sub $100 knife it doesn't take much for me to plead ignorant and just give it up.

What is your budget? You looking for something cheap or a custom or??
Doesn't have to be custom $100 or less preferably less like okie said if I have to give it up I don't want to be pissed off about it. Yeah your right Dennis I have watched those videos myself and they be defending attacks from people in swimming trunks cause I don't see it happening either

A lot depends on what size, weight and intended "EDC" uses you have in mind? If you don't mind oiling the edge from time to time, take a look at ESSE knives, particularly the Izula II, 3 & 4 models. You can find them on sale at the major internet knife retailers with sheaths for a c-note or less.
