Carry is encouraged at our church, and we are in the process of CLEET certifying our volunteer security team.

CLEET cert? Dang... doesn't that require a full-time course like several months? I dunno, was just thinking it is like reserve officers. Why so many do it for a year, then quit, because they're not taking that much time away from their primary job to go do the training.

40 hours over 2 weeks unarmed security guard.
32 hours over 4 days armed sec. qualification
2x fingerprints
2x passport photos
2x state tests
bond insurance
city and county records checks
signed and notarized affidavits
$ for all (paid by church) around $800
continuing education/training yearly.

It's a pretty big commitment. Benefit? It didn't make me a better shooter, but it does make you aware of the legalities of citizens arrest, limits on the use of deadly force, and probably helps the church's liability.

I carry at church every Sunday. I know of several others that carry also. We have cameras that cover every exit and have someone in the foyer at all times to monitor the cameras. We also have people that patrol the building every so often. And all our doors are locked when church starts. Someone could still get in but it will sure be hard. And if they do they ain’t making it very far. One of our elders is an nra member and so is a deacon. The deacon goes to wannamacher and sales old western type stuff. We call him whyat Earp because of his mustache and his love of old western stuff. My preacher whom I am also friends with is a big gun guy too. He is in the process of getting his and his wife’s licenses. No one that can carry should ever go to church without their gun. Heck I say don’t ever leave home without it. I don’t.

My daughter works for one of the largest churches in the Dallas Metro,,,,,,,,,,has about 20,000 members........ Every service has at least 4 security guards in uniform and visible, in the audience, and numerous guards that are undercover in the audience (even she doesn't know the number) . Uh,,,,,,yes they are well armed.

I'll be visiting Oklahoma and will have an occasion to attend a memorial service in a church. My carry license is recognized as a reciprocal license in Oklahoma. Is concealed carry allowed in Oklahoma churches? Thanks for the help.

In OK it is up to the individual church. There is no blanket statue covering places of worship.

It's funny I came across this. I talked to our preacher last week about carrying in church and that it felt awkward, not from the carrying point of veiw because I've been carrying close to ten years now, but carrying into a house of God. Our preacher said he didn't see a problem with it and that our church is putting together a security team and we are conducting a concealed carry class in the next couple of weeks.

I just never thought it'd come to having carry guns into church to protect yourself.

Church is just another building. . .and the God I serve may be a God of peace and love, but He's no stranger to deadly conflict.

There's the story about the guy who was in the flood. He went up to the roof to escape. Boat came buy, and guy says "Nope, God will rescue me". Another boat, same response. Helicopter came to get him, same response. Guy drowned. Got to heaven and asked God "why didn't you rescue me???" God says: "well, I sent you 2 boats and a helicopter"

Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

THIS, I'm an usher at my church. Guess they could ask me to leave when I'm passing the pot. They just recently, since the last shooting, have a OK county sheriff deputy there every Sunday
I am not for this UNLESS the officer is a Christian, assuming you are in a Christian church. If the officer is not a Christian, welllll, don't know how the disciples felt about Jesus being held by Roman guards?

Our curch has stickers on the door, no weapons. Really sticks in my craw, but I enjoy my Sunday School class so I abide. A few years ago we had NPD officers patrol inside and outside. That lasted about 2 months until one of the big donors had a row about believing, having faith, and Roman Soldiers guarding the flock. NPD are now gone and now they have hired a Christian based security co.

Luke 22 New King James Version (NKJV)
35 And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?”

So they said, “Nothing.”

36 Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. 37 For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have an end.”

38 So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.”

And He said to them, “It is enough.”
