Albuquerque Officer accidentally shoots undercover 9 times during botched drug raid.
Oversight committee found that offending officer (the one that sounds like Bill Paxton from Aliens) made several mistakes that lead to the shooting, and had previously been involved in another wrongful shooting case from 1998. He was allowed to retire

Injured officer survived after losing 80% of his blood and damage to most of his major organs. He sued the city and was awarded $6.5 million and lifetime medical costs.

Warning: Extreme Language

so does this case mean that if a cop now accidentally shoots the wrong person and they live the person will easily be awarded lifetime medical and millions of dollars.

And I assume the bad guys got away.

And i assume if a person has a gun on him then it gives the officer the right to shoot said person.
Allowed to retire.. should have been fired and NO pay . Welcome to McDonalds what can I get you today.

Of course he was! Just because he happens to wrongfully shoot a couple of people--on two separate occasions--doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to spend the rest of his life living at taxpayer expense. He's a hero!

Ha! Those rules are for the special people, the agents of the state! We peons should be thankful we don't get charged for causing the cop emotional distress.
