I buzzed through about 7 pages or so. Sounds like most are at least open to the idea. The POE was formed because they wanted something other than the liberal stance of the OEA to be a voice at the capital. Ask the same question of the OEA and the results would be WAY different. Good on the POE, I liked most of what I read.

Glad to see there were so many supportive and well thought out responses in this. Saw a few ones that I couldn't believe were made by actual teachers. Good none the less though.

The House’s Public Safety Committee approved House Bill 3192, which make it easier for a district to allow teachers to carry, if they have a carry permit. I hope it passes and the governor will sign it.

Yes easier by allowing school boards to not require CLEET training, but still leaves approval with board which could seek and require training appropriate to the environment. Step in the right direction but won't change anything without changing the view of boards and superintendents. They need to hear from parents that support having well prepared, armed classroom teachers and administrators.

Still require the school boards and administration to okay it. I'd bet a bunch would rather hide under their pale concern than approve it.

It'll be a contrast between rural and urban schools I'm sure. Rural districts will be conducive to the idea as they are self-reliant, and urban districts will balk at the idea due to their dependent attitudes that the problem can be dealt with on a social or law-enforcement level.

Correct me if I am wrong...The teachers unions and tenure system keeps some public school teachers working who are unfit for the responsiblity of the job.....This knowledge is what causes teacher's unions and many administrators to vocally oppose concealed carry by teachers.

(I am in favor of concealed carry option for teahcers and admnistrators.)

While it could be true is some cases, it's not likely a primary argument for either the OEA or administrators. Also, Oklahoma teachers do not really have "tenure." They do have the right to due process if fired after 3 years on the job. The number of "teachers working who are unfit for the responsibility of the job" would, in my view, be extremely rare. Also, the surveying organization, Professional Oklahoma Educators, is a non-union alternative to the Oklahoma Education Association.
