Can we talk about smart phones with ATT

I would ditch ATT as quick as you could. I have had them for almost 10 years and hate them. They have the absolute worst customer service on the planet. And they don’t give a crap about the customer. As long as they have your money that’s all that matters. They don’t care about upgrading their tower or anything. I am switching to Verizon as soon as I can. I have a mobile hotspot with them and it always works great and their customer service blows att away. And there reps are in America unlike ATT.
Talked to a Verizon rep and supervisor last week. They were in Guatemala! And very rude.

Verizon was the WORST customer service experience of my entire life of dealing with customer service in anything. I had to call multiple times a month for 9 months in a row before they finally did what they told me every time before.

I started with AT&T years ago with my first cell phone. Finally got free of the contract and went to Sprint. Then, all of a sudden AT&T buys out Sprint and I’m back in their clutches again. That contract ends and I change again. I can’t even remember the name of the service, but AT&T did it again. I’m being stalked by AT&T.

My youngest son has Verizon and after three months he and they finally got on the same page. When he got the phone, he was told one story about billing and charges by the rep. Checking online, the bill was $40.00 higher than what he had been told. When he called customer service, they gave him another amount.

After going through a couple of supervisors and confirmation emails, I think it may be stable. For now....

Like any other provider, none are going to have 100% happy customers.

All-in-all ATT has been a pretty good provider over the 20+ years I have dealt with them. Have had a couple rough spots but we were always able to work it out. Only reason I had the latest blow up was because I wanted a deal on two phones that was better than what they wanted to give. Was trying to leverage my longevity and what one rep told me wasn't what ATT could actually do.

I worked around it and ended up spending a little less for phones than I was originally quoted. Guess in the end they actually did me a favor by giving me the run around. The final test will be when I take the phones in to have them changed over and the stored numbers moved to the new phones.

We have been ATT users for forever. We signed up for the unlimited plan way back in the day and never looked back. At the time, that plan seemed to give us "upper tier" access to things like tech support or phone releases. Once they ditched all the unlimited plans a few years ago, the grandfathered unlimited plans became highly sought after because they were relatively cheap and were the only way to get unlimited data. We enjoyed the unlimited everything for years while everyone else was getting the shaft.

A few years ago we noticed that every three months or so, our service costs went up about $15 for no reason. we weren't buying services or phones, nothing was changing on our bill. When we called and asked, they person on the phone explained that when AT&T re-released their unlimited plans, the grandfathered plan holders were being "encouraged" to switch by increasing their cost ("because old accounts take more work to maintain" she said). I told this nice young lady that we were going to be cancelling all four of our lines that day and going to Verizon. Those $15 fees were immediately removed and have never reappeared.

Now, to "encourage us" to move, they won't allow any of our phones to use the tethering feature (root fixed that), we are not allowed to enter into payment plans on phones (which is a dumb idea anyway!) and we can no longer add lines to our family plan. Their mentality of "we will punish you for being a long time customer so you will stay with us!" isn't working. Imagine that!

Once the wife and I are ready for our next phone upgrade, we will assess all the other carriers and most likely will be switching. Sad thing is, I don't think there's a carrier out there that as shady AF. It's all a big scam! I am actually looking at making my next upgrade an unlocked Asian phone. Many of them are getting amazing reviews - some better than the Samsung line even - and have great features. I don't need 10 different cutesy phone cases or other accessories, which is where off brand phones get dinged the hardest, very little aftermarket support.

I've bought a new Iphone 7 Plus off of EBay to replace our old IPhone 5 and have had no problem with the local ATT center in MWC switching SIM cards. Even bought a Galaxy 7S and they put a new SIM card in that one also. No problems at all. Sometimes I even switch the SIM card myself.

If you are over 55 and need two lines, you need to look at TMobile's 55+ plan. Two lines, unlimited everything for $60 including all taxes and fees. They do say they reserve the right to lower you speed if you exceed 50GB in a month. They do let you tether and hotspot, but slow you down to 3G unless you want to pay the another $10 a month.

We just upgraded our AT&T service today with a very helpful customer service rep. All conducted by a chat line with a rep.
Unlimited service with free streaming on Direct TV that doesn't use the data usage and free HBO.
We only went up $5 from our old plan. Not a bad deal.
