Completely agree! Don't want to hurt any animal. Just want the bastards dead or gone.
The Pinesol trick will work but you will have to stay on top of it. Once the smell fades they will come back. I planted mint and they stayed away after that. Mint took over the flower bed so ... there is that. Lol The other thing about the mint -- MY cats were completely unphased by it. Go figure. They would roll around in it and come in smelling like peppermint but at least they don't poo in the front flower beds anymore. Neighbors' cats don't come anywhere near the house. Haha!
In Ponca City some group of tree huggers convinced the city commission that if feral cats are trapped, they are spayed or neutered, and returned alive where they were trapped to live out their lives being the worst killer of wildlife of any domestic animal with other feral cats of the neighborhood.
When living in town 30 years ago, I didn't have a suppressor, but I did have .22 shorts and a side window opened just enough to let a bullet pass in the garage to pick off the dozens that lived next door in the abandoned rent house.

+1 on the Minty sprays, work real well. Also keeps bugs away.
A lot of years ago when I lived in the city I grew up in (Tulsa) I had a little flower bed between the sidewalk and the porch that developed a bad smell. I used a florescent light fixture ballast (transformer) and ran a little wire around the edges up about 8 inches on some plastic sticks. Damn those cats can wake you up in the middle of the night with their screeching.
I guess they did not like that particular voltage. Choices have to be made. Me or them?
Moved out here to the country several years ago talking with my neighbor. He really cares about his cows, wants to keep them healthy and safe. My neighbor uses an electric fence charger around his perimeter when he gets some new ones. His cows stay in their area very well, healthy, doing well. It seems they have decided it is not a good thing to push his fences over and get out into the road. Tough love works. Either way, keeping in or out. Animals are just like my dogs. ya have to train them of what you want them to do, and they remember to do it, just looking for guidance.
You do have to get their attention before that can happen. I saw one of my dogs chasing a deer out of my yard a while back, later saw skid marks where the deer jumped over the barbed wire fence. He knows he is not allowed to cross the fence line, (one side has a road.) Very good loyal loving dog I spoil rotten. I did some tough love with him that hurt me back when he was little, but got to keep him safe letting him run free with that road just outside the barbed wire fence where he knows he is not "allowed" to go.

I trapped 7 in my backyard. I knew I had a couple living off my bird feeder but never guessed I had that many. I took them to the animal shelter. 1 went to a buddy farm for rodent control.
When I was at OU the neighbor "cat lady" had at least 27 cats. Not funny when you leave the car window down and a tomcat has been in it overnight. Norman checks out live traps for free. I have no idea how many cats I took to the pound 20+. It's a pain in the rear but that proved an effective and ethical means to control the issue.
