We just spent a couple days tenting it. We're 52 and still camp a couple times a year. The wife grew up camping but not me. She converted me for a while but we talked about a small camper quite a bit.
We have a 'kitchen' box and a 'camp box'. They are the Rubbermaid tubs that hold everything we need.

I spent many a long night "camping" (sleeping on the ground) in the USMC. Thus, one of the many things no longer on my to-do list is camping. I do NOT sleep on the ground anymore; I do NOT sleep in a bag, or curled up shivering and wet under a stinkin' poncho anymore. I do NOT have a tub or box of crap to take with me outside so I can do the above. I didn't particularly enjoy the whole sleeping in the dirt thing then; I see little appeal to it now. I do NOT camp. You may do so if you wish. If I do have to camp, you may be assured that the S Has HTF and I will be acting appropriately as befits a retired USMC Infantry Officer who clings to life and liberty and will go to great lengths to ensure that those things, as well as the safety of my family and myself are maintained.

My perfect vacation is a 'light load' week long backcountry trek in the mountains. A week without seeing another human certainly helps to 'detoxify' my attitude! I still use my old Magellan GPS to set the location of my vehicle then turn the thing off until I start to head back to civilization.

Welcome to the forum!
I'm into the RV lifestyle now with the wife, but still get into the mountains annually for some back country fun. I take a compass though along with a GPS. Some canyons don't allow enough access to satellites to get good directions. A friend spent a real uncomfortable night in Montana on a bear hunt because his gps lied to him.

This Fall, I may attempt the Ozark Highland Trail in Arkansas. I've done bits and pieces of it...…….2 weeks of vacation might just tie it all together! Rescued a starving coon dog from it a couple of years ago. Dog had the owner's info on it's collar. It stayed with me a couple of days. The owner said the dog had been missing for a couple of weeks and was glad to get it back.

I can understand what your saying Druryj but I should clarify a bit. We have air mattresses and three layers of egg crates, AC in the tent, etc. I sleep and eat better when I camp than I do at home!

Add it all up and it's a lot more reasonable to rent a hotel room and toss the key on the bed the next morning and head out. And often they'll give you a free a breakfast.

I like tent camping, but the problem is, I gotta have a fan on me at night. Specifically, on my ugly-ass bald head. In a campground with electricity, that's fine. But if I got no air movement on me when I'm sleeping, unless it's -40°F you can be assured I'm gonna absolutely sweat to death and not get a lick of good sleep. <sigh>
