Drive over to the Victor / Cripple Creek area.

We especially like Victor. Have a malt at the Fortune club.
Lots of old mines, head frames ,and buildings.
Cool place just to walk around.

Cripple Creek has several interesting museums and is surrounded by old mines.
The visitor center is nice.
Gambling too if you need to pay your stupid tax :twocents:

Take the tour thru the huge open pit gold mine between the two towns.
You sign up in Victor.
Really cheap. One of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Since you're catching a game in Denver, make it a day trip. Eat at the closest Jim's Burger Haven you can find. They're amazing. Also, Casa Bonita is average/not bad mexican food, but if you're travelling with kids, they'll remember it forever.

If you're going to Denver, the Denver Mint is pretty cool and Denver has a nice Natural History museum.

Here, but occasionally There.
Follow up: If you go the Pike's Peak route, be sure and have water for everyone and tell them to sip at the water as you gain altitude. That helps alleviate altitude sickness. I failed to do that one time and got involved with taking pictures instead of taking water. I had to sit in the vehicle and sip on water for about 10 minutes before I was comfortable with driving back down the mountain.

If you go the route of going to Victor and Cripple Creek, seek out Phantom Canyon Road drive from Highway 50 east of Canon City to Victor and Shelf Road from the south side of Cripple Creek back to Canon City. (Pics on my Smugmug site. See links above.)

Cave of the Winds is an option if any of your group are interested in caverns. They also have some "thrill" rides. Check out the link.

In Old Colorado City, there is Michael Garman's Magic Town. If one likes to see artistic things, he has built a small city-scape inside the museum where one can see a "community" from back in olden days (30's and 40's.) Peek in the windows and you might see scantily clad ladies, and scenes within that change as the light inside changes. Similar changes are seen in the alleyways, and there are little holograms. The movie theater is even showing the movie listed on the marque on a little screen that can be seen through the open doors. Be prepared for parking meters if you have to park on the street.

If you like German food, Edelweiss restaurant is a must. One of the times we were there, I had the Filet Mignon for just under $30, but it came with two (yep, you read that right) 2 steaks on the plate. Awesome!!!!

Pike's Peak Cog Railroad is closed, the trains aren't running anymore.

I'd recommend to go see Red Rocks Ampetheatre while you are there on the SW side of Denver. There is a museum there.

Was just there, visiting friends and taking a summer tour of the Rockies. Pikes Peak Cog train is closed indefinitely, but you can walk or run Barr trail. The Manitou incline is a good way to get your heart rate up as well. Hint- Start early and go on a week day. Parking fills up quick at the top of Ruxton St. Garden of the Gods, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Cheyenne Mt. Zoo, Ute Inn bar up in Woodland Park (Friend owns it).
If hitting a baseball game, go early an see the 16th St. Mall, LoDo/ Train Station. All walking distance from the stadium. Have fun and take a jacket if you're going to be out after dark.
