Silver maple trees biggest problem is when they are near foundation, concrete, etc. The tree is well known for shallow roots (even above ground) which can cause lots of problems.
Exactly. They are almost impossible to grow grass under. At least Bermuda. I tried for two years to get Bermuda to grow under it, but it just wouldn’t take off. Trimmed the lower branches high so it got morning and evening sun etc.
I think I read something later that the silver maple because it is so shallow rooted puts out a natural herbicide to kill any grass under it so it won’t be a competition for its food and water.
We don’t have it anymore. High winds took it and our Bradford Pear tree down a few years ago.
