Never been as far north as Bull Shoals or Gaston......
But I’ve been on the Buffalo several times and fish the White south of the Norfork hatchery in a tiny town called Calico Rock.
Always used Jenkins guide service.
Always caught trout.

Yes. We usually stay at Gaston's. It looks like is was built in the 60's-ish and hasn't been updated. It's right out of a Patrick McManus book, we love it. The restaurant is to DIE for. Or we stay at Bull Shoals State Park. It's one of the cleanest, nicest State Parks we have ever stayed at. And the fishing up by the dam in the catch and release is good. So I heard......

We have stayed at Gastons, and a couple of the resorts down river that I'd have to look up. Typically without generation there are just pools where one can sight fish with the fly which can be tough. Last time we went was two years ago when the river was running about 15' deep and swift because of the record rains upstream. All the dams along the White were brim full. We caught fish then by drifting a power worm with a small piece of shrimp on the hook. Cooked shrimp worked best. We got that tip from a guide that has been taking clients out for over 30 years.
When the original owner of Gastons was still alive, he really took care of the place. Son in law runs it now, and is more worried about the almighty buck vs pleasing the customer. We ate the Sunday Brunch at the restaurant the last time we were there and talked to some of the locals that are regulars. That's where we got the info.
One of my high school buddies was drowned just below the dam at Bull Shoals. He and another guy were throwing the fly and waited too long when the siren went off to get out.
