Today I was cleaning off the exterior woodwork around the doors and as I was wiping I heard a funny noise and I looked and a piece of the paint came off and there was dirt behind the paint and upon closer inspection honeycombs in the wood from termites.
I've been trying to price the cost of the internet and it ranges from $1200 to $3500 and that isn't chump change. Does anyone have any experience with termite exterminators that did well by you with fair prices and good work?

my sister had Terminix yea they killed termites but then ants came in and ate the termites is their story and her outside wall 2x4's got all eaten by nesting ants. they did not pay any on the warranty claim she was going to put on them because they said what they spray does not kill ants. you must pay for a different application for ants.
BS.
I fixed her swaying wall. it would move 2 feet. brick home!!
found this.

I like permethrin and I like boric acid dusted into all walls that i build.
Dust it into the base of the wall before hanging sheetrock.
Not many bugs can withstand boric acid doused area.

An old guy told me years ago why his house never had termites and all the neighbors homes did.
He took a shovel and dug a 1 foot deep 4" wide trench around his house and dumped his used oil in the trench then covered it up.

Said it leaches into the soil and no wood eating critters want anything do do with that.
Things to think about.

I have an independent exterminator coming out tomorrow evening, they say they can beat the price Terminex charges so we'll see what goes. Gonna get a couple or three estimates and see the cost variance. I sure hate to tear out and replace the door jam, off to Lowes in the AM.

My MIL had one of the companies come out that bury bait stations around the house in Broken Arrow. I spotted an area in a hallway under a table that had a hole in the oak flooring.
With a little pressing the little hole was a 2’ strip down the wall of termite damage. The company wouldn’t stand good on their warranty according to MIL. Cost most of a thousand bucks to repair the floor.
There is a long, long story about the termite company and how this all went down. I found the damage, and in her desire to remain independent in her late 80’s I fear she got taken advantage of somewhat.

IMO most termite companies are expensive ripoffs. You can do it yourself with Termidor. That's what most companies use
anyway. Get on the internet and check out companies like Do-it-Yourself or others. Buy the Termidor and apply it yourself
and save your money. Also research the termite info and educate yourself on the subject if you have time. Also OSU has
info on pest control that you might want to check on. I do my own pest control and save lot's of money. :)

We spent about 2 grand a few years ago for termite treatment when we saw a swarm and had an inspection done. They did a good job, drilled holes all around the house, even in the concrete and put down whatever poison and filled it all back in. We pay annually for the "extended warranty"? I don't know, a coupla hundred bucks, I think. I believe it was Orkin we used. We also have them come out and spray inside and outside pretty regularly, several times a year. I don't like bugs. Hopefully we'll never have to use the warranty before we move, but I like the idea of Borax in the walls if/when I ever get around to building a house.

Man, I better get on that, time ain't movin' any slower. :rolleyes2

Some company called me this AM and using my address got the SF of the house and didn't even have to come out. They say they'll inject the soil with Thermador but I'd much rather have the "feeders" every 5 ft or so to eliminate the termites. They wanted over $1,000 for treatment.

I'm in the middle of trying Advance bait stations. A few days ago, after waiting the recommended 2 months, I checked them and had termites in 7 out of the 20 I installed. Will put the diflubinzerzon cartridges into those 7 stations once it arrives this week. Hopefully they will carry in back to the colony and eliminate it. Cost so far is under $300. A fair amount of sweat using a 2 3/4 inch earth auger to install the bait stations......So far I am pleased...jury is out....but so far it appears far better than the $2,000 I paid Terminex on an earlier house.

I have seen what Terminex does and I can do exact the same as they do, drill some holes saturate the area with Thermador, drill holes every 15 feet or so and put in bait traps. I've been checking around and even on EBay one can buy the bait traps. It isn't anything that a college graduate can't do, but you do need a PhD to do the work. I think the hardest part of the job would be drilling through the concrete slab and porches. I've also Carpenter Ants I need to rid.... any options?

If you can get to one of their mud tunnels and put a little Termidor in them, they will carry it back to the nest and it will kill them.
You don't need to drill all those holes etc. In 2 or 3 days the tunnel will be clear of termites and you will know you got them. I do
this if I can get to a mud tunnel they use.
