The only crossbows I’ve owned have been Excaliburs, and they have served me well. I’m a fan of recurves for the simplicity. I can change strings and make minor repairs in the field.

For a couple years, I’ve been reading reviews about a crossbow collaboration between Excalibur and Bowtech called Offspring, and the reviews have been great. It’s got an Excalibur Matrix lower stock and a Bowtech/Stryker compound upper. I recently found out that model has been discontinued for some reason, so I decided to acquire one before they’re gone. I bought mine off EBay as a package (bow, scope, bolts, etc) for $400 shipped (price a couple years ago was $800). It came in a couple days ago, and I got it assembled and shot it yesterday. WOW! It’s about the same speed as a couple of my Excaliburs, but it’s smoother and quieter. The trigger was light enough but had a lot of creep, so I took a Triggertech aftermarket trigger out of another bow and put it in the Offspring. Problem solved. I think I have a new favorite.:thumb:

This post is strictly informational, but if anyone needs/wants a new crossbow that has great reviews and is reasonably priced (now). Take a look at the Stryker Offspring.

I have been using one for at least 10 years, blown out both shoulders and have severe stenosis of 3 discs so they work pretty well. Both of mine were made by Barnett and shoot above 340 fps. Groups about 3 inches at 50 yards.

I once was a Ranger at Thunderbird and personally would not hunt there because the deer are pretty tame. Not much sport in shooting one that is not afraid of people. That being said, they are going to die anyway when they get 6-7 years old, so harvesting an older one with 10 points or so, would be a different story. LOL

They are for lazy people with no skill who want to pretend to be bowhunters
Or seniors that could no longer pull a bow, or hunters that have suffered disabilities that do not allow them to pull a bow. The Xbow regulations that were relaxed have allowed thousands of sportsmen and women back into the field that they deserve.
