Lack of sunspots to bring record cold, warns NASA scientist
November 12, 2018 by Robert
“It could happen in a matter of months,” says Martin Mlynczak of NASA’s Langley Research Center.
________________

“The sun is entering one of the deepest Solar Minima of the Space Age,” wrote Dr Tony Phillips just six weeks ago, on 27 Sep 2018.

Sunspots have been absent for most of 2018 and Earth’s upper atmosphere is responding, says Phillips, editor of spaceweather.com.

Data from NASA’s TIMED satellite show that the thermosphere (the uppermost layer of air around our planet) is cooling and shrinking, literally decreasing the radius of the atmosphere.

To help track the latest developments, Martin Mlynczak of NASA’s Langley Research Center and his colleagues recently introduced the “Thermosphere Climate Index.”

The Thermosphere Climate Index (TCI) tells how much heat nitric oxide (NO) molecules are dumping into space. During Solar Maximum, TCI is high (meaning “Hot”); during Solar Minimum, it is low (meaning “Cold”).

“Right now, it is very low indeed … 10 times smaller than we see during more active phases of the solar cycle,” says Mlynczak

Record cold in a matter of months

“If current trends continue, it could soon set a Space Age record for cold,” says Mlynczak. “We’re not there quite yet, but it could happen in a matter of months.”

Someone needs to break it to the GACC crew, that there are forces at work which are simply beyond their comprehension and ability to effect. I'm certainly in support of gathering as much CORRECT data as possible and attempting to create models, but they're no more accurate at present than the local 7 day forecast. It's just a SWAG on a greater scale.

I remember back in the 70s, we were all told that we would either freeze from global cooling, or starve because crops would fail from the same cooling.

Time magazine had articles, NY Times had articles, it was the Next Big Thing.

The earth was given 10 years before the ice age was to start causing glaciers to cover the northern states and Canada forcing the population to move South.
I remember those dire predictions.
Wasn’t it Al Gore that said the earth only had 10 years to correct what was going before we burned up 30 years ago?
Now we’re looking at another ice age?
Maybe we should just let Mother Nature take care of herself and we just butt out.

I remember those days as well. At the time, I read where the "scientists" were recommending that soot be scattered across both of the poles to prevent the cold from those places to radiate to the rest of the planet. Fast forward a few decades, and "scientists" were recommending that we orbit mirrors in space to reflect back some of the sun's heat.

As for the current condition, I suspect that some "scientist" will come along and state that the shrinking Thermosphere will actually allow more heat to come to the earth as there is less "insulation" of the atmosphere.

If you look at the graph above, those oscillations look pretty consistent to me. Granted it's not a big sample size (time), but it sure looks like that pours cold water on their co2 thing causing temps to fluctuate or whatever it is that they are saying that'll be killing the planet in short order. That graph looks like the earth's EKG and it looks pretty normal to me. $0.02
