I shot a 3.5" max turkey load from a single shot 12 gauge #4 I think it was.
Never have I ever shot anything that kicked that freaking hard.
Awesome pattern but the trigger guard would hit your finger so hard you thought it broke your finger.

Note to self: Need heavier gun or lighter load :)

I just used some cheap Remington nitro 3” #4’s ($10 a box). But I’ve shot those Hevi Blended turkey loads. Holy crap those boys kick hard in my benelli M2. I’ve never shot anything like it. And it wasn’t even 3 1/2s!

You think Jan 2-3 is too late for a crane hunt?

As long as they've done their homework, you should be fine. Season closes Jan. 20th, and they'll hang out at the refuge into February even. We've seen hundreds and hundreds flying back into the refuge when calling bobcats north of the lake in February.

If you wanted to go before Jan 2. CurtsGuideService is one of the best crane guides around. He charges $140 a gun. Way cheaper than anyone else.

You know where curt does his crane hunting? We are going somewhere west of Blackwell which works for us as we have relations in Stillwater we can stay with.

Nice haul ! I went out by plainview Tx in ‘13 and had a blast. I used my customary bb 10ga loads and have said when I do it agin I’m using #4 the bb did quite a bit of damage. They’re so good you don’t want to waste any if you can help it.
