im sitting here watching a spike keep looking up at the feeder and flinching. So I’m thinking about setting it so it goes off while I would be walking in. That way the deer are cleared out so I’m not bumping them coming in.
I don’t usually hunt over a feeder but last year I spent a boatload of money and gas just dumping corn on the ground.
What times do you set you feeders for and why?
Btw, had it set for 7:30 and he came in within a few minutes but he’s obviously been spooked by it before.

For summer, I set mine on 7am and 7pm for 3 seconds, and I gradually move the evening set time back as the days get shorter. I also increase the spin time as hunting season gets closer. Currently, they are set on 7am and 6pm for 5 seconds. Next trip, I’ll go to 7am and 5pm.

I’m not sure if this is the best way to do it, but it seems to work for me. I much prefer to pour corn on the ground, but since I live over 500 miles away, I can’t keep it out continuously. Also, coons end up eating more than deer.

I have mine set to feed at 7:00am for 4 Seconds. 7:15 the does come in like clock work.
Last year had it set this way. Feeder went off at 7:00am for 4 Seconds, Does came in at 7:15, Buck came in from the back side following the does at 7:20. BOOM...
See picture below. This took place 150 yards behind my house shooting from a ground blind. Did have to set my cup of coffee down before taking the shot.
Got the Buck field dressed and loaded on my 4 wheeler trailer and went back to the ground blind to retrive my interrupted cup of coffee, it was cold, damn deer.

Yeah, you screwed up. BTDT. Proper scenario ... "BOOM" ... finish coffee ... retrieve deer ... field dress ... etc.

Problem solved.

(Oh, VERY nice buck, BTW!)

Don't have to set mine. Put a new battery in about July. They auto program to feed at sunrise and 30 minutes before sunset. Perfect all season long if you top it off.
I have a couple the same way. One I have to program, and it's set to go off at 30 mins after legal shooting time in the AM, and 2 hours before evening shooting time. I adjust it as the shooting time changes

I got tired of feeding the raccoons so I only set mine for 7 am. Deer pass by and eat a little in the morning and unless the turkey's come in and clean it up, there's plenty left when the deer come back through later in the afternoon and eat. I consistently have deer on camera in the morning and around 4 pm doing it like this. Now I don't get the family of raccoons every dang night eating it up.
