I have a 6.5, ther is no reason to own a RPR in .223 that round won’t take full advantage of the platform.....

If you own a 6.5 or 308 they are the same acttions with some smithing you can go back and forth between 308 and 6.5, if you have G/NG gauges

.223 or 5.56 nato, I’d your planning on shooting 855’s out of it you are going to be disappointed. If you want to buy specialty 223/556 match / handload’s etc you might have an accurate rifle out to to 300-400 yards....I’d you want to you xm855 rounds, well you’ll be in the ballpark at 300-400 yards but nothing you wanna bet your life on.

6.5 is rally better, I mean we buy these guns for accuracy at distance. I can get a lot of smaller/easier to carry weapons that are accurate to 300-400 without springing for the RPR, ESPECIALLY in 223 /5.56 . If you are goign long 6.5 or .308 are the way to go. In my opinion RPR is to much fun for the 223 limitations. But you could be that one guy that fits the niche for an RPR in .223 lol

If your heart is set for a 223 you have tied your hands if you ever wanted to run something different in a pre-fit barrel. Stepping up to a 0.472" bolt face allows you numerous options in a switch barrel application. Barrel nuts and pre-fit barrels are a nice addition for todays shooter and many manufacturers allow this now. You'll spend as much for a match grade pre-fit barrel as you would for a quality rifle but that's basically what you end up with. In 30 minutes you could change out from your 308 deer rifle to a 22-250 varmint killer or a PRS 6mm CM competition platform.

Long rifles Inc, https://www.longriflesinc.com/collections/frontpage is a go to for pre-fit RPR barrels

The RPR in 223 with its 1:7 barrel will allow you to shoot just about any bullet and depending on how good a shooter you are an effective range of 800 yards, possibly further depending on atmospheric conditions and shooter ability.

As I said before I would run with the Tikka Tac A1 and purchase pre-fits later on. Personally I like their chassis better than the RPR. Tikka bolts run very smooth and with a $12 Yodave trigger spring you can safely bring the pull weight down to a little over a pound and it breaks very nicely. Accuracy is very good with store bought ammo with the OEM barrel. Naturally hand loads only make it better.

I’ve been eye balling those RPRs for a while. Personally I wouldn’t go with 223 just because it is such a light bullet. Too much dropping and drift to factor with long distance. I’ll probably go with a 300 win mag. Was thinking 338 but don’t want to fiddle with a new round. Just stick with what I have already.
