Not a Commemorative fan. But Combs was one of my heroes. Been fired, box is rough. Bought it right.View attachment 130424View attachment 130425View attachment 130426
I have his Remington 742 30-06 that he shot aerial exhibitions with...he gave it to me after he had it engraved a couple years before he passed. We hunted and shot together for several years. Every time I get it out and look at it, it brings some very fond memories. He was a true gentleman.

I also have the commemorative, and several S&W revolvers that he worked his magic on (reaming from 38 to 357, tuning.....he really knew how to smooth out the action on a S&W).

Believe he did that with a 1911...and drove himself to the hospital afterwards.
you are correct sir. In his words, "22 caliber pecker with a 45 caliber barrel", He had the 45 in his waist band and "thought it was cocked and locked". He said he learned a tough lesson. I have always carried my 1911 with round chambered and hammer down since then, "and he did to0".

Yep, He was a man's man alright.

He said one thing that has stayed with me all my life.

An unloaded gun will not kill you, it's the unloaded head that kills.

I'm a commemorative fan, I gotta ask........got into it right???
bought mine new when they first came out...still in the box....long enough that I don't have a clue what I gave for it.
I do know that his 2 favorite sidearms were #1 the model 19 and #2 was the (at that time) the model 10 heavy barrel (after he reamed them to 357).
If memory serves me right, S&W later came out with the model 13 (which is the 10HB chambered in 357)

Precisely. I carried one for years and loved it. Then the Model 65 stainless came out to compliment the herd as the 66 did to the 19.
I bought the stainless 65 but never could get it as smooth as the 13. It was like glass.

Here is Lt. Dan in the 70's.

Watch until the end. he has some great comments.

I watched the video...had not seen it. When reading some of the comments, I noticed comments from a JL Shook. Dan Combs, Bill Jordon (border patrol) and I made a couple of trips to Beaver County and shot prairie dogs for 2-3 days each time. The sheriff was Odd Shook and a friend also. Never did know his name, everybody just called him "Odd".
