I’ve watched a guy with an H&R single shot waste a group of “seasoned” wing shooters on the trap range.
Learn shotgun skills and you don’t need the whiz bang shotgun that is the magic talisman.

Ha my ole man is pretty salty with the “yard gun”, a single shot 12g. But he got into duck hunting and bought a Benelli late this season to replace his coast to coast stores (savage) pump that breaks...a lot.

My first post was a “do it all” shotgun, should have been more specific
Do it all. No one gun can do that. It won’t run ultralight skeet shells. It won’t run 4gauge punt shells either lol. I’d much rather haul a M2 around for dove or quail than a sbe3

I shoot just as many birds as the guys I hunt with using my O/U. One shoots a A400 3.5", and the other a new Benelli, both have been good to them, but they also have to clean their guns, and I don't lol. You'll never need more than two shots at a time in any of the shooting sports either. Recoil is obviously more in the O/U, but steel loads are nothing like lead. 3.5" steel out of my O/U is very tolerable, 3.5" lead is like a .458 win mag.

I haven't shot the SBEIII but I bought my dad a 3" A5. He likes it!. It's fairly light weight and handled well in the dove field. It ran smooth with the Walmart federal bulk back ammo. We haven't had the opportunity to do much duck hunting so I can give a report on performance with heavier loads. I use a Benelli ultralight duck hunting. It will kick the crap out of you but when it's cold and I'm all bundled I need a shorter length of pull. My BIL really likes his Vinci.

I would probably go with the old trusty Remington 1100.....1187 if the longer shells were needed. I don't get to hunt enough to have those fancy shotguns.
