Today was forge a one piece spur day. For those that aren't up to speed on spurmaking, there's two ways to make your heelband/shank component. You can make two piece spurs which is where you weld your shank material to your heel band material or you can do it the old school way where you split a piece of bar and "T" it out. The old timers seemed to prefer car axles and they split em with a torch. I've got a bandsaw so in the name of less clean up I used it. This piece of roundstock was formerly a 1" hydraulic ram. I cut it 6" long then split it 4" deep.

Thats cool. I really need to build one of those. My roping skills are pretty embarrassing. Especially while trying to drive a vehicle of some sort at the same time. And with my dad driving he will do his best to kill you.
If I can do anything to help ya, just holler.

Nice Job Cowcatcher!
Are you planning on having a leather strap across the front or are they going to be slip-on? Sorry I don’t know the correct word for the ones that are slip-on.

They'll have straps. Here's an example. This is a spur I currently wear. These straps have no buckle and are built by me specially to fit me. These spurs were built by a friend of mine for me.

Man, you do some nice work!!!! ONLY an hour?!?!?!?!
Yeah probably actual work time. This was my first one so I had to make the tin pattern and figure out the "process". Also stopped to make that jig plate to hold the rowel while I filed it. Making one tomorrow should go pretty quick. This one still needs some finishing touches. The fun is making em match.
