So my wife came home earlier and the check engine light is on again. We have had to have the car in the shop two other times over the last three months. Water pump went out and then had to have some kind of gasket replaced a week later. It’s a 2008 Buick Enclave. It’s been a pretty good car up to this point. It has 186,200 miles. We have had plugs changed and the main belt replaced as well. I called on star and the diagnosis was what this picture shows. Do any of you mechanics know what this could be? I know if I take it in my mechanic will charge me $65 to run another diagnostic test which is ridiculous. I read it could be the catalytic converter. I’m sure whatever it is I will be dropping another $400+. Life sure does suck. This is the times when I would like to punch the person that says being rich won’t make you happy. I’m sorry but if I were I wouldn’t be worrying about this crap!!

There are several things that could cause it to light up. One of them, and the easiest to fix is damn contrariness. The light can illuminate on a whim. Disconnect your battery cables for a few minutes with the car off. Reconnect the cables and turn your ignition "on" but don't start the car for a minute or two. This might reset your computer and turn the light off. Easiest (and cheapest) thing to try first. Sometimes there's something wrong with the light itself.

I posted this to have an actual mechanic give me some info. Not to use google and listen to a bunch of people guess.
An actual mechanic did. No mechanic has the answers to all problems on all vehicle makes/models. The good ones use manuals and other resources, the others just change parts until the problem goes away.

And you posted this question on a gun forum, genius.

Luck. :drunk2:

Could be a number of things. The CC would be the most expensive but maybe it’s gonna not hurt so bad...

Go to Autozone, have them reset the code (it's free). When the check engine light comes back on, go back to Autozone and have them read it. P0420 is an emissions code which is either the O2 sensor(s) or the catalytic converter or both. The O2 sensor is 80-100$ and is a 5 minute fix. Your V6 engine has 4 O2 sensors, one before and one after the catalytic converter on each side depending on the motor. The code reader should tell you which "bank" (bank 1 is driver's side, bank 2 is passenger side) and which sensor (sensor 1 is before the cat, sensor 2 is after the cat). If it were me, I'd change the O2 sensor first because the cat(s) can run 400-1000$ I had a '08 LeSabre with the same engine and it ate O2 sensors at the rate of one every couple of years. I hope this info helps and if no other reason you can go into your mechanic educated.

YMMV. Glocks are better than 1911's.......
