I haven't posted about it but I lost my last living uncle to sleep apnea in October of 2016. He quit breathing and he had a heart issue and died, paramedics couldn't save him. He was only 54.

I met this woman a little over 32 years ago who snored like a freight train from the very first night. She still does, but doesn't have any issues. I however, developed it with weight and use a CPAP. Luckily the VA takes very good, regular care of that for me at no cost.

BTW, I've noticed our cat is now snoring (and pretty loud). She's fat too. I wonder if they make a feline version. lol

Neat little CPAP device to make it interesting for the wife.

I've been using one since early 90's. My biggest complaint is that occasionally it will force air into my stomach. Wake up feeling like a basketball is in my stomach. Talk about a BELCH! Or sometimes it doesn't wake me up and the air moves on down. In those cases I can outfart a racehorce! :)

I've been using it for about 8-10 years--it's been so long that I'm not quite sure right now. I have a ResMed Airsense 10 and my only complaint about it is that its not the version that senses when you put the mask on and kicks in automatically (or if it is, that feature isn't turned on. Maybe I should check with my sleep doctor.) It is an autosense model, so it adjusts the pressure on demand between a range that slips my mind right now. It also has the call back feature that reports the amount of time it was in use and the mask seal and humidifier quality. I was given the choice of either using that or having to return for a second sleep study, so I chose the call back.

I use a nasal mask as I sleep with my mouth closed. My only issue is that I'll wake up with a dry mouth as often as not, but a sip of water relieves that. I find the nasal mask more comfortable than a full face mask. I also use a humidifier, as the 12 empty distilled water gallon jugs in my bathroom will attest to--gotta throw out or recycle all of them one of these days.

I use a CPAP as well for severe OSA. I've been researching a bit and find that OSA can cause hypertension which can be resolved with CPAP usage, GERD (heartburn, burping etc) can be caused by OSA, and last night I read an article that hypertensive heart disease can cause OSA. There are probably many things that can cause OSA that they are discovering periodically. I do not like OSA, I rank it alongside insomnia which is miserable.

I've been using a CPAP for over 30 yrs trying to lower BP. Did not lower BP, but sure helps me sleep better. Tried the full face and the over the nose model, but the cost comfortable for me is properly sized and adjusted nasel pillows. Also use the Respironics model. It has the humidifier although I don't use it.
