Cool. Never saw that. I assume they're on migration when they show up in our area though.

I did see an active nest in southern Colorado once, where we stayed overnight at a lodge with another couple. Teensy-tiny little eggs.

in the photos i posted is a fledgling hatched at an old friends place out by lake arcadia. he usually has 20+ battling around his feeder. the female will continue feeding her young and teaching it for several days after they leave the nest

The battle has begun for the feeder I have out.

I'll have one on the front porch. There's a Chinese Elm nearby, the dominant male will hide in it.
He allows females to feed, but when another male comes by, the dominant male will dive-bomb the newby. Sometimes the newby runs, sometimes it'll stand (hover) and fight.

I've seen them fight so that one will actually get knocked from the sky. Years ago, I watched one fight that ended when the loser got knocked out, landed on the driveway with a hummingbird-sized thump. It laid there for a few minutes, then got up and flew off.

We get a lot that stick around all summer. They set up in a Bradford pear and an old dead tree cluster near my place...we float in the pool and watch hummingbird air battles nearly all summer LOL.

What timing. I’m here on the back porch drinking a beer. I was poised to complain in this thread about the feeders being out for 3 weeks and haven’t seen anything. I look up at the feeder and there is a male stopping by for a fill-up.

So feeder was out about 1.5 hours. Sit down to dinner talking to my daughter and look up and there was a bird at the feeder. He came back 3 or 4 times while we were eating.
