Two weeks apart west of Lawton in 2015. 3/4 inch of ice on Thanksgiving weekend 2015, 2 weeks later see this snake same place. I got out of my truck and he was about 3 feet from edge of my door. There was nothing manly about me trying to get back in the truck. Thing scared the @#$@ out of me. What are snakes doing out in the middle of December? Used to see them all over in SW OK and the parts of Texas that surround that corner of OK. Birds would make nests over awnings and snakes would go up there to get them. I never went near a work site without a through investigation due to snakes.

Stepped out of my car one night on the shoulder and felt a whack, whack, whack on my boot top. I got back in the car and left, in a hurry!

My cousin said he was walking through a field of tall grass when he felt a tap on the toe of his boot. Said he took off like a scared rabbit; when he stopped long enough to look down, he saw these two dark circles in the leather.

As for myself, I proved that it's certainly possible for a guy of my size to jump back about six feet off my back foot. I walked around the corner of the car, looked down, thought "that looks like a copperheadholyf**kitisacopperheadohs**tisitstrikohf**kitisstrikingatme!1!1!" and the rest was pretty much unintelligible swearing until I shot it with the .22 pistol I had in my hand.

Years ago, I was in Haikey Creek Park one summer day with my dog. We went down to the creek when it was really low, and I looked around for snakes. Saw none, so I sat down on a log right next to the rivulet of water flowing past. The water wasn’t more than a foot wide at that spot, and a few inches deep - that’s how dry it was. I was reading a book while cooling my bare feet in the water, when suddenly a snake slithered down the rivulet and across my feet without stopping.

I had the presence of mind to remain perfectly still until it had disappeared into the pool of water downstream. Then we left. Not quickly, mind you. Just without any delay.
