Thanks for the offer not sure when I am going to be able to go. All depends on work and weather. I need a day where its not blowing 20mph so I can sight in a new scope on another rifle also.

I am bad about OCD so I hate having things that aren't alike. So everything has to be PSA and Magpul. I have had franken rifles and ended up trading them for other stuff or selling. Who knows I can't stand stainless but got a stainless barrel on this one. So it could be up for sale before I know it.

The rear sight is moved forward a few slots just to make sure it is good and clear of the charging handle. My 10 year old will be shooting it and I don't want him smacking the rear sight.

As for building exactly what you want. That is cool man. I am slowly piecing stuff together for my son to do his first build and I want it all to be top quality parts.

It looks like PSA may be getting those handguards from Midwest Industries. I really like the MI handguards.
You are correct here is the stamp on it. This whole upper minus BCG and CH was $229 with Mbus set. I don't know how they can make stuff this inexpensive in USA.

Ok, so this thread has been invaluable for me (along with my build thread from many moons ago). Got a question about barrels. To dimple or not to dimple. Get a pre-dimpled or dimple at home? The gas block I'm looking at getting (Superlative Arms Adjustable GB) comes in both clamp on and set screw configurations. I've read and seen some people say you use the dimple to line up the gas block and to use a dimple jig, others have said to line it up and dimple where the set screw mars the barrel.

I’m not an expert, but I’ll take a shot at this. Pinned is going to be most secure, but probably not worth the effort and/or cost because a gas block secured with set screws or clamped on is extremely unlikely to move, especially if it’s going to be completely covered by the handguard.

I generally would choose clamp over set screws because I believe the pressure applied more evenly over a larger surface area makes for a more secure mating. But I don’t have any evidence for that other than the Military Morons’ test of their clamp-on optic mount (barrel index pin sheared off before the mount moved).

I believe I read somewhere that the Superlative Arms adjustable gas block has an oversized gas port. If true, alignment should be hard to mess up even without dimples.

I’d say don’t worry about whether the barrel you want to buy is dimpled or not. Buy the barrel you want (or one you get a good deal on). If it’s not dimpled, use a clamp-on gas block. If it is, you have the option of using set screws.

Well, finally getting ready to buy the final parts and stuck in barrel lala land. Finding what I want and having it available has been the hard part. I'm wanting a 16" mid-length gas system with nitride coating and M4 feed ramps and a 1:7 twist. Either 5.56 or .223 wylde. The ones I've found that fit what I want are out of stock. The ones in stock are either carbine length gas systems, stainless or 1:8 twist. I was really interested in the Ballistic Advantage government profile barrel as it met all my wants, but denied by the out of stock virus. Same thing with several other barrels. I'm wanting to keep the barrel under $200. Any ideas out there? I'm ok with either .650 or .750 on the gas block size.
