I'm not trying to defend him...but there might be explanations. For us common people the dollars are extremely high. For the CEO class, maybe not. About vacations: many people tie vacations to work travel.
It might not hurt to wait and see what else comes out and what explanations or defenses he can offer.

Wayne and Chris run around in limos, private jets, dine, and travel like they are Speaker of the House or something.
This is not always what it seems. Back when the CEOs of Ford, GM, and Chrysler went to Congress to secure bailouts for GM and Chrysler, they were (very disingenuously) roasted by the Democrats over having flown in corporate jets instead of taking commercial flights. Well, there are reasons for that, one being that they can continue conducting business from corporate jets, but the bigger reason is insurance--they were all covered by "key man" insurance policies that effectively prohibited them from flying commercial (for risk management reasons).

I don't know if the NRA has similar insurance policies in place for those two, but I wouldn't be shocked if they did.

I don't understand how this works? What is "key man" and why is it more important for insurance reasons?

A key man policy is an insurance policy purchased by the company to protect the company from the economic losses that would be incurred following the loss of a key person; essentially, it's life/AD&D insurance that has the company as the beneficiary. To meet its coverage terms, you have to take risk mitigation steps, like taking private jets and limos instead of commercial jets and taxis.

Would you not prefer a person in a leadership position that could directly relate to the core demographic of the membership?

My son is the CEO of an American mining company owned by an Australian Co. I can assure you his dress requirements require his appearance be first rate at times. He does not pay 30-40 grand for his suits. This guy is fleecing the membership. I no longer belong to the NRA nor does a good number of my firearm buddies. Robo calling is clearily anegative indicator of bad things for this historic organization

While I agree with you, the NRA is not a for profit corp. Their stock wouldn't take a hit and shareholders wouldn't be left holding the bag if LaPierre died while representing the NRA. They would simply replace him and move on. What he's done is surround himself with acolytes and made himself "too big to fail".

Sorry, that's not what we expect of the NRA. :(
