With regard to raising taxes on luxury items, they did that some time back to expensive yachts and the next thing they knew, the business went elsewhere for building and all those folks in the U.S. industry of building them were out of a job.
Very true!
But they got to feel self-righteous about not allowing Americans to engage in the immorality of building yachts without massive taxes, so it was a win in the end.
What's sad is that it was President HW Bush, a Republican that enacted the Luxury tax after he said "read my lips, no new taxes". It cost him re-election.
Your correct that it drove manufacturing to other countries where they are still being built today.
He violated the principles that President Trump is bringing back, and manufacturing is returning.
Pretty simple I think.
