To the average Joe Blow, non competitive shooter are the expensive M1911's worth spending the money ?

By expensive I suppose I'm talking about the upper end, well over $1000.00 guns made by STI, Wilson, Kimber, Les Baer, Nighthawk, D.W. (Bruin) and H & K etc.

Having competed in IHMSA handgun silhouette matches for many years I feel the most important thing (to me) was having a light, smooth and crisp trigger but then a good trigger job can be done by a competent gunsmith on a M1911 costing considerably less than what some of the expensive guns cost.

Someone is probably going to say that the upper end M1911's are like comparing the difference between a Ford Pinto and a Jaguar but when it comes right down to it is average guy really going to notice that the Jaguar got him back and forth to the grocery store any better than the Pinto ?

So to the average skill level weekend shooter do you feel that an expensive M1911 is worth the money ?

Only you can decide if it's worth something for you, but for my purposes I would want a decent trigger, and not want it to rattle if I shake it, and I'd want a nice finish. But otherwise for a range toy, no it wouldn't be worth it to me. But then I wouldn't really consider $1000 to be an "expensive" 1911, but for my purposes I wouldn't go a lot over that.

what any person decides to spend their disposable income on is not a matter i will make judgements on, nor will i express how i "feel" about a subject. as long as someone wants to trade me objects i want for totally worthless paper, i'm all in until i get a new paper supply. none too subtle put downs of another persons wants and abilities is not bait i will rise to. so judge away, put down how ever much you like, and enjoy your pinto, but bear in mind the difference twixt "expensive" and quality. if you do not understand the difference...well, speaks volumes does it not?

Hey @lasher, if you want to send me some of your totally worthless paper, I promise to get up every morning for a mutually agreed time period and recite a poem or something in your honor. LOL!

I've got a series 70 Colt that I paid $600 for probably 15 years ago that shot ok but it needed trigger work so a few years ago I sent it to Terry Tussey and had a few things done like a reliability job, trigger, checkering, and a re-blue. About $1200 worth anyway. I got it back and wasn't real happy with it so he got it back. It was better when I got it back but still wasn't worth the money I spent. I've got a series 70 Commander that is box stock that out shoots it. So I don't think I would spend that kind of money on one. I think a lot of it is '' Look at what I got'' type stuff like a high dollar boat or car or truck.

Lasher subtle or otherwise I was not attempting to put down anyone down nor was my post directed at any particular person about how they do or don't spend their money......it's funny how sometimes things can be read between the lines of a persons post if one looks hard enough.

Since I know the whereabouts of a low mileage tricked out Les Baer that is available the sole purpose of my post was to get opinions on weather or not, with me being just a casual M1911 plinker, if I should consider spending the money.

Now if y'all will excuse me I'm going to go hop in my car and make a quick run to Homeland. :)
