I got through without ever taking the ACT or SAT. I started at Rogers State which also gave me few hours based off my DD 214 then transferred the minimum required 24 hours needed to enroll without a test to OSU and finally wrapped up at OU.

This really is a non-issue.

I also started at a two-year school, never took the SAT, and was accepted to great four-year schools after a few semesters on the dean’s list and induction into an honors society. I knew my potential for success in higher ed wouldn’t be represented well by my performance on standardized tests. I also don’t think it makes sense to pay university tuition for general ed when, with a little planning, you can take those courses at a less expensive school, along with a few intro courses from your major, and transfer to the school you want to graduate from.

I didn’t end up transferring. Decided to graduate with a couple associates degrees and start working. That was one of the best decisions I ever made. Many people in my profession don’t have a related college degree and I already had enough experience to get a junior-level job. I’m thankful I was able to avoid all that debt.

Don’t get me wrong, if a student can better himself/herself, they should be able to. If a student comes from one these areas with good test score, no criminal record, good attitude, being truly able to handle college/university level courses, etc. then I could see him/her getting breaks in getting into higher ed. But that this should not have more importance or override other deserving students not being accepted. IMHO, I just think that the secretiveness of this program, if there is no outside oversight of how these numbers are arrived at, who determines the winning recipients, etc., etc., this makes it far too easy for the program to be abused by those running the program. How to make a program like this work will take a lot more study and a lot of oversight if implemented. To make somewhat of a comparison on the possibility of abuse, we have already seen the abuses arising in women’s sports where males identifying as females are making it all but impossible for biological females to win in their sporting events.

ANOTHER .GOV PROGRAM ABUSE REMINDER:

Does anyone else happen to remember Nikolas Cruz, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and the "Promise Program"?

The Florida School Shooting- And the PROMISE That Created It
February 25, 2018

..."Why? Why would Sheriff Israel ignore a psychopath with guns? Because back in 2013-14, the Broward County School Board was in conflict over the number of arrests of students. They wanted to make that number lower so they could gain federal resources — in other words, money, lots of government money. So, they enacted new policies (the PROMISE program) that, in essence, said students will not be arrested and that students will not ever enter the juvenile justice system."...

Florida ed officials lied about Parkland shooter's involvement in PROMISE program
By M. Catharine Evans

..."A few days ago, WLRN received word from two sources familiar with Cruz's school records that, contrary to Runcie's prior statements, the shooter was referred to the PROMISE program in 2013, after vandalizing a bathroom at Westglades Middle School.

On May 6, Runcie's district spokeswoman, Tracy Clark, confirmed the WLRN report."...

I hate to break it to you, but graduate programs have been doing this for a long time. They do it because overcoming adversity is an indicator of success in the program; you have a pretty good idea that a student with a high GPA and high test score will do well, but what about the student whose grades went in the crapper for a couple of semesters because he had to take care of an ailing family member?

I'm not sure that rolling what needs to be a qualitative decision into a quantitative score is a good idea, though.

Tucker Carlson's question on his show yesterday was the perfect response: “Why are we going to punish families who stayed together, had kids they took care of and educated?”

Yeah, he nailed, I think he made a good argument. But the BUFFON of the social justice movement don't get it.
